Description
Our client is a Toronto-based digital-health startup developing a neurological wellness and monitoring platform. The platform is initially focused on supporting people living with multiple sclerosis, with expansion into Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Advisor in Neurological Digital Health to support the leadership team, help or support to navigate the neurological-health ecosystem, and support relationships with hospitals, research centres, patient organizations, and other potential collaborators.
The preferred candidate is a researcher or healthcare innovation professional currently or previously associated with a Toronto hospital, university, neurological clinic, research institute, or patient-care organization. Experience with multiple sclerosis is especially valuable. Experience in Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, movement disorders, aging, wearable technologies, digital biomarkers, or remote patient monitoring would be highly relevant.
Key responsibilities:
- Help product teams understand MS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and the neurological patient journey.
- Explain how neurological clinics, research centers, rehabilitation programs, and hospital innovation groups operate.
- Help identify unmet patient, caregiver, researcher, and healthcare-provider needs.
- Advise on neurological digital health, wearable sensing, patient-reported outcomes, symptom monitoring, longitudinal trends, and wellness scoring.
- Review the product team’s proposed patient application, wearable strategy, questionnaires, dashboards, and research plans.
- Help distinguish wellness features from medical or diagnostic functions.
- Advise on research design, clinical validation, ethics review, patient consent, privacy, data governance, and institutional approval pathways.
- Assist in mapping relevant hospitals, clinics, research programs, patient organizations, and potential collaborators.
- When required, make appropriate introductions when permitted and help the product team develop credible institutional relationships.
- Support discussions concerning pilot studies, focus groups, feasibility studies, research collaboration, and validation.
- Advise on funding opportunities, research grants, commercialization programs, and strategic partnerships.
- Participate in periodic leadership, product, and scientific-advisory meetings.
Preferred qualifications
- Graduate degree in neuroscience, neurology, rehabilitation science, biomedical engineering, health informatics, digital health, aging, epidemiology, or a related discipline.
- Research or program experience involving multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or movement disorders.
- Current or previous experience within a Toronto hospital, university, research institute, neurological clinic, rehabilitation organization, or healthcare innovation center.
- Understanding of digital health, wearable sensors, remote monitoring, patient-reported outcomes, digital biomarkers, AI-supported analytics, or longitudinal health data.
- Experience conducting or supporting clinical, observational, implementation, or digital-health research.
- Knowledge of research ethics boards, privacy requirements, patient consent, hospital procurement, and institutional partnership processes.
- Established relationships across Toronto’s neurological-health or research ecosystem.
- Ability to translate scientific and healthcare information into practical guidance for a startup team.
- Strong reputation for integrity, patient-centered thinking, and responsible innovation.

- BARLO MS Centre, Unity Health Toronto, UHN, Krembil Brain Institute, Toronto Western Hospital, Baycrest, Rotman Research Institute, Sunnybrook’s Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program, University of Toronto neurological or digital-health research programs, MS Canada, Parkinson Canada, or an Alzheimer's organization
- A neurological clinical trial, digital-health, pharmaceutical, or medical-device organization
Expected commitment
Approximately 5–10 hours per month, with the possibility of expanded involvement as products move into patient engagement, validation studies, and institutional partnerships.
Important governance requirement
The advisor must disclose institutional obligations and potential conflicts of interest. Any research, patient recruitment, data access, introductions, or collaboration must follow the applicable hospital, university, ethics, privacy, and consent requirements. The advisor will not be expected to provide unauthorized access to patients, data, clinicians, or institutional resources.
