Who we are:
At Wagepoint, we're good people. It's easy to feel that way when you're surrounded by folks doing the best work of their careers, building great payroll software for small businesses across Canada.
Our team brings together diverse backgrounds, perspectives, experiences, and ideas to make payroll the easiest part of running a business.
We're remote-first, growing, and looking for passionate people who don't settle for the first solution or the way it's been done before. We care deeply about our customers and each other, and understand that when it comes to payroll, getting it right matters.
Our values guide how we work and what we expect from one another:
Cultivate Impact by focusing on what matters most and delivering meaningful outcomes for our customers.
Unify as One Team by collaborating openly, communicating clearly, and rallying around shared goals.
Stay Curious and Kind by challenging assumptions, learning quickly, and leading with empathy.
If you want to build the future of payroll in a place where your ideas are welcomed and your contributions matter, look no further!
The role at high level:
We're looking for a talented Staff UX Designer who enjoys tackling hard problems and wants to create meaningful impact for small businesses across Canada. You'll balance hands-on design execution with cross-functional leadership, turning complex user needs into simple, accessible experiences that shape how small businesses experience payroll. You will report directly to our UX Design Manager.
What you'll be expected to own:
Set the bar for design craft, delivering prototypes and high-quality designs that other designers look to as the standard.
Manage delivery across multiple projects, turning ambiguous, large-scale problems into clear plans and well-documented solutions.
Apply broad systems thinking to your work, through information architecture, user flows, and other system maps that hold up across multiple products.
Build strong, ongoing relationships with Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners, and represent UX in conversations with senior leaders.
Drive standards and best practices in AI-assisted discovery and exploration
Champion the Wagepoint design system, contributing components and helping guide governance and adoption across the company.
Play a key role in product strategy and vision, spotting new opportunities and challenging assumptions in discovery and planning sessions.
Help define and evolve the UX team's standards, patterns, workflows, and tools.
Own key team maturity programs and help in managing DesignOps initiatives alongside UX peers.
Advocate for UX across the company, including accessibility, data-led decisions, and the processes that let UX do its best work.
Mentor other designers, sharing constructive feedback in design reviews and helping others grow and develop.
What you bring to the table:
8+ years of experience in UX or product design, ideally in a SaaS or product-led environment.
A strong portfolio of work showcasing design for complex data, multi-step forms, and UX in high trust scenarios.
A track record of driving impact on high-priority, large-scale, and cross-team initiatives.
Strong communication, story-telling, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Experience navigating ambiguity, taking initiative, and proactively solving problems.
Experience facilitating workshops, planning projects, and estimating UX work.
Experience contributing to or managing a corporate design system.
A collaborative mindset and a genuine passion for mentorship and cross-functional partnership.
Mastery of Figma, using variables, components, and libraries.
Strong experience using Claude, Cursor, V0, Figma Make and similar AI tools.
Bonus points if:
You've used AI to combine design and code in your work.
You’ve designed for complex regulated environments, including payroll and fintech.
You can demonstrate strong motion, illustration, and visual design skills.
What we bring to the table:
Impact: Dig in and directly contribute to Wagepoint’s growth and success.
Culture: Work alongside a team that genuinely enjoys solving problems together, celebrates wins, supports one another through challenges, and still finds time for the occasional terrible joke.
Growth: We believe learning is part of the job. We’re committed to helping you Get Better Every Day (a representation of our Stay Curious and Kind value!) by offering professional development, new experiences, and career growth as we continue to evolve.
Innovation: Curiosity and experimentation encouraged! Bring ideas, challenge assumptions, responsibly utilize AI, and help shape better ways of working.
Remote: Work from wherever you do your best work. Wagepoint has always been remote-first, giving you flexibility, autonomy, and hopefully a little extra time with the people (and pets) you love.
