Our client is a well-established organization seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to join their HR team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional who is ready to take greater ownership of the payroll function and continue developing toward a future management-level role.
Working closely with the HR team, the Payroll Lead will take ownership of end-to-end payroll across multiple Canadian entities. The successful candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now, strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, and proven experience managing multiple payroll cycles, year-end processes, reconciliations and statutory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end payroll processing across multiple Canadian entities, from payroll preparation through to final review and audit of payroll reports.
- Ensure employees, contractors and other payees are paid accurately and on time.
- Process salary increases, bonus payments and other payroll adjustments in accordance with approved instructions.
- Set up new payrolls and manage payroll closures as required.
- Prepare and process statutory documentation, filings and remittances, including ROEs, income tax requirements and other payroll-related remittances.
- Manage Employer Health Tax (EHT) and other earnings and deduction administration.
- Respond to CRA inquiries and maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with statutory and audit requirements.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and support general ledger reconciliations.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc payroll reporting.
- Lead quarterly and year-end payroll balancing and reconciliations, including T4s and T4As.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and well-documented payroll information.
- Administer pension and benefits contributions and maintain accurate records.
- Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and internal stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Partner closely with the HR team and contribute to payroll process improvements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive Canadian payroll experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now is required.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including CRA requirements, CPP, EI, income tax, ROEs and provincial Employment Standards.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Employer Health Tax (EHT), pension and benefits administration.
- Proven experience managing quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including T4s, T4As and reconciliations.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits and responding to CRA inquiries.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, payroll journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a professional corporate environment.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and remain organized during high-volume periods such as year-end.
