Senior Accountant
Downtown Toronto, ON (4 days per week in-office)
Up to $110,000 base salary, plus a defined benefit pension plan and excellent benefits

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role takes ownership of the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of corporate and investment holding entities. The successful candidate will work closely with finance, tax, treasury and investment teams, gain exposure to senior leadership, and help improve quarterly reporting and accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Manage general ledger accounting for an assigned portfolio of corporate and investment holding entities, maintaining accurate records and meeting quarterly and year-end deadlines.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for investment activity, equity transactions, related-party transactions, cash deposits and fixed assets, including interpreting legal and tax memoranda.
- Prepare monthly bank and intercompany reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and maintain investment and fixed asset continuity schedules.
- Review journal entries prepared by accounts payable and analyze general ledger balances for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare quarterly trial balances and reporting packages to support consolidation, and contribute to enhanced internal financial reporting and analysis.
- Prepare annual financial statements and related notes under ASPE, together with year-end working papers and supporting schedules for the tax team.
- Prepare audit working papers and respond to questions from auditors, management and other stakeholders.
- Prepare monthly or quarterly HST working papers and supporting documentation for CRA reviews and audits.
- Build strong working relationships across departments, providing timely information and developing a thorough understanding of assigned entities.
- Use Excel and other tools to streamline reporting, automate recurring work and improve accounting processes, while supporting system changes and special projects.
Requirements:
- Canadian CPA designation in good standing required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industry or public accounting, including a small or mid-sized firm or the private enterprise practice of a national firm.
- Experience maintaining accounting records and managing general ledger activities, with strong reconciliation and technical accounting skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to improve templates, streamline processes and automate recurring work.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing deadlines.
