MILL PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR – EVENING SHIFT

I am conducting a confidential search for an energetic, hands-on Production Supervisor to join a successful and growing metals manufacturer in Montréal.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being on the manufacturing floor, leading people, solving problems and keeping a high-speed production operation running safely and efficiently.
The position is assigned to the evening shift:
Monday through Friday
2:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
Full-time, on-site position
An important advantage of this opportunity is that there are two supervisors assigned to each shift. The successful candidate will work alongside a highly experienced senior supervisor, providing an excellent opportunity to learn the operation, its equipment, processes and culture while assuming meaningful leadership responsibility from the beginning.
THE RESPONSIBILITY
The Mill Production Supervisor will lead the safe, disciplined and reliable execution of production during the assigned shift. Responsibilities will include:
- Establishing shift priorities and assigning employees based on the production schedule
- Leading mill startups, product changeovers and downtime recovery
- Confirming that material, tooling, staffing and equipment are ready for production
- Driving schedule attainment, productivity, quality and on-time completion
- Enforcing safety requirements involving lockout, machine guarding, lifting, traffic control and housekeeping
- Responding quickly to equipment, material, staffing and quality constraints
- Coordinating with production planning, maintenance, quality, safety and logistics
- Ensuring accurate reporting of production, downtime, scrap, material usage and quality issues
- Conducting effective shift handoffs and communicating unresolved problems
- Coaching employees, reinforcing operating standards and supporting employee training and qualification
- Identifying recurring production losses and helping the organization improve its processes
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE
Experience in steel, tube manufacturing or another metals-processing environment would be strongly preferred.
However, the company is equally interested in an upbeat, energetic and intellectually curious manufacturing supervisor whose experience was developed in another high-speed, equipment-intensive production environment. This could include paper, packaging, building products, automotive or another continuous-process manufacturing operation.
The successful candidate should offer:
- Previous production or operations supervisory experience
- Strong floor leadership and the ability to earn the respect of hourly employees
- An energetic, positive and highly engaged leadership style
- Genuine curiosity about equipment, processes and manufacturing problems
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and operating discipline
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Sound judgment when responding to downtime and production interruptions
- Experience coaching, training and developing manufacturing employees
- The ability to work effectively with maintenance, quality, planning and other support functions
- Comfort working with production schedules, operating data and performance measurements
• Native-level French fluency; strong spoken and written French is essential
The compensation range is $80,000–$100,000 CAD, depending upon experience and qualifications.
