Role Description The Law Clerk will work on-site in Ottawa, ON in a full-time capacity, supporting lawyers with the preparation and management of accident and litigation files. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and formatting legal documents, organizing client files, and maintaining accurate case records and timelines. The Law Clerk will conduct legal and factual research, summarize findings, and assist in preparing materials for hearings, mediations, and trials. The role involves direct communication with clients, insurers, and opposing counsel, scheduling appointments and proceedings, and ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant with court and firm standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with lawyers and other team members to deliver attentive, high-quality support on each file.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law and familiarity with litigation and personal injury procedures.
- Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and organizing pleadings, correspondence, and court forms.
- Excellent Communication skills for interacting with clients, counsel, and internal team members in a clear and professional manner.
- Solid Research abilities, including legal research, fact-finding, and summarizing case-related information.
- Advanced Writing skills for preparing concise, accurate, and well-structured legal documents and communications.
- Post-secondary education in Law Clerk studies, Paralegal, Legal Administration, or a related legal discipline.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple files and deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail, discretion, and respect for confidentiality requirements.
- Proficiency with legal practice management software and standard office applications (e.g., MS Office).
- Previous experience in a litigation or personal injury practice is an asset.
