Position Title: Cardiology Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)
Reports to: Lead Specialty RVT
Department: Cardiology
Status: Full-Time Permanent (40 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Prerequisites
- Active member of the ABVMA and ABVTA
- Ability to lift 50 lbs (22 kg)
- A desire to grow the RVT profession
- Confidence with basic RVT skills including patient monitoring, venipuncture, and IV catheter placement
- Proficiency with monitoring equipment (pulse oximetry, ECG, capnography, etc.)
- Willingness to create opportunities for themselves, the hospital, and their patients
- Intent to share knowledge and expertise with others to elevate them
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to the team and Management
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and time-management skills
- Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
- Ability to be on time and prepared to work at the beginning of your scheduled shift
- Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, animal vomit, urine, blood or feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
Position Summary
This role is a partnership and collaboration with veterinarians to provide gold standard medical care to our patients. There will be a focus on client communication and education, which will include providing home care and medication instruction to owners and supporting them with follow-up care and questions. In addition to the general RVT duties, this position may require cross-training in other specialty departments such as Surgery/Anesthesia, Oncology, and Internal Medicine, as needed.

Essential Job Functions
- Conduct physical examinations and patient assessments
- Anesthetize/sedate and monitor patients for surgery or other procedures, including understanding higher risk anesthesia for the cardiac patients
- Monitor and recover patients from anesthesia
- Assist with advanced diagnostics such as echocardiograms, ECGs, Holter monitoring and telemetry
- Assist with thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis and other procedures
- Monitor cardiac rhythm and recognize abnormalities which may require intervention
- Actively participate in CPR, including use of defibrillator
- Calculate, draw, and administer oral and injectable medications
- Fill prescriptions, relay orders for compounded medications
- Effectively communicate with clients via phone, email, and in person
- Generate estimates and review informed consent with clients
- Perform medical procedures as prescribed by the veterinarian
- Perform venipuncture and catheter placements
- Use in-house laboratory equipment and submission reference laboratory tests as needed
- Obtain quality images with Xray, CT or ultrasound
- Admit and set- up patients for hospitalization and transfer to ICU
- Manage hospitalized patients, perform recovery care and additional specialized treatments
- Supervise and support Animal Care Assistants with their patient care
- Assist DVMs with appointments
- Perform tech appointments
- Triage patients
- Double checking aftercare for the Animal Care Attendants
- Assist with maintenance and quality control of equipment
- Mentor and support other members of the veterinary team
- Contribute suggestions to improve hospital flow and patient care
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
- Other tasks as deemed necessary
