Hiring Event - Mandatory Requirement
As part of recruitment and selection process, attendance in-person is mandatory for this exciting Hiring Event on Friday, September 25, 2026. Applicants who are unable to attend the full event may not be considered for this opportunity.
Position Overview
York University, Schulich School of Business, is establishing a roster of approximately 50 Casual Proctors to support examination activities/proctoring beginning in December 2026 and continuing through to end of December 2027.
This opportunity is ideal for applicants seeking flexible, casual employment in a professional academic environment. Casual Proctors play an important role in maintaining the integrity, security, and effective administration of examinations while ensuring compliance with university policies, procedures and standards.
Successful candidates must be available to work variable shifts during peak examination periods and provide reliable support based on operational requirements.
Position Details
- Hours: As needed basis, and up to 20 hours per week during peak exam period
- Shift Hours: Varying shifts - Monday to Sunday scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
- Rate of Pay: $17.95 per hour
- Contract Term: December 2026 to end of December 2027
Key Responsibilities
As a York University, Schulich School of Business, Casual Proctor, you will support processes to ensure examinations are administered fairly, consistently, and in accordance with established University procedures.
Responsibilities may include:
- Deliver required exam announcements and ensure students are aware of exam procedures and expectations.
- Handle exam materials and equipment, including picking up and properly using scanners or other tools when assigned.
- Display and monitor an online clock and display required exam information.
- Follow exam protocols and directives provided by the Course Director or designated academic staff.
- Adhere to established University exam procedures by using the Proctor Training Guide and related materials.

- Can provide dependable support during peak examination periods.
Previous proctoring experience is not required. Successful candidates will receive training and guidance on examination procedures and expectations.

Event Agenda
- Registration: Please arrive promptly at 9:00 a.m. for registration. Only candidates who come prepared with the cover letter, resume, and contact information and register in person on the day of the event will be eligible for consideration.
- Information Session: All candidates are required to attend an overview of the Casual Proctor role, including key responsibilities, expectations, working conditions, and examination procedures.
- Assessment: Candidates will be required to complete and successfully pass an assessment as part of the selection process (approximately 30 minutes). During the assessment, all personal devices and electronic items must be put away.
- Interview: Candidates who successfully pass the assessment will be invited to participate in an interview. Interview will be held on-site on the same day.Interview time will be communicated to eligible candidates during the hiring event.
