Our client is seeking a Design Assistant, Technical Apparel to support a fast-paced technical apparel design team.
Role Overview:
The Design Assistant will work closely with designers to create and maintain technical design assets, support fittings, manage seasonal color and style information, and keep samples and design files organized. This role requires strong attention to detail, speed, accuracy, visual communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited direction.
Role Responsibilities:
- Create and revise detailed flat sketches, technical line drawings, style mock-ups, colorways, and seasonal presentation materials using Adobe Illustrator.
- Maintain accurate artwork files, templates, layers, callouts, and naming conventions.
- Support apparel product development by updating technical sketches and design documentation based on feedback from design reviews, fittings, and cross-functional partners.
- Attend product fittings, capture detailed fit notes, and ensure updates are accurately reflected in design files and style tracking documents.
- Maintain color deliverables, seasonal style boards, line plans, and presentation files.
- Support the preparation of clean and accurate visual materials for internal reviews.
- Maintain an organized design workspace, sample library, inspiration archive, and digital file system.
- Track incoming and outgoing samples, reference materials, and seasonal design assets.
- Research global fashion, cultural, material, color, and consumer trends and translate findings into visual references for future seasonal concepts.
Role Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Technical Apparel Design, Pattern Making, Apparel Production, or a related field.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, including creating technical flats, manipulating vector artwork, building colorways, managing layers, and maintaining production-ready design files.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a strong asset.
- Experience with PLM systems, technical packs, or apparel specification documents is preferred.
- 2+ years of apparel, fashion, product development, or technical design experience is preferred.
- Strong recent graduates with exceptional Illustrator skills and a high level of organization are encouraged to apply.
- Understanding of apparel construction, garment terminology, fit, trims, materials, and the product development lifecycle is an asset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to take feedback well, work collaboratively, and demonstrate curiosity and initiative.
