Wesley Industrial Machine Shop Ltd. is seeking a skilled Machinist to support precision machining and production operations. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to producing high-quality components. Working closely with the Shop Foreman and Operations Manager, the Machinist plays a key role in ensuring all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Through attention to detail and craftsmanship, they contribute to maintaining Wesley Machine Shop’s reputation for precision and reliability across a wide range of machining, repair, and balancing services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual and/or CNC machining equipment
- Machine components to precise tolerances based on technical drawings and specifications
- Perform manual milling operations (key seats, dovetails, slots, etc.)
- Perform manual lathe operations (turning, threading, tapers, etc.)
- Perform broaching of keyways as required
- Support a variety of machining and production needs across the shop
- Perform driveshaft modifications and repairs, including cutting, assembly, and alignment
- Assist with balancing of rotating components, including driveshafts, crankshafts, and related assemblies
- Inspect components for straightness, alignment, and balance, and make necessary adjustments
- Support setup and operation of balancing equipment as required
- Interpret and analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions, including GD&T
- Measure and verify components using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
- Ensure all work meets tight tolerances (± .0005) and required specifications
- Inspect finished components to ensure accuracy, functionality, and compliance with specifications
- Identify machining defects or inconsistencies and communicate findings to supervision
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail
- Maintain machines and equipment to ensure proper operation
- Report maintenance issues or concerns to supervision
- Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and correctly
- Work closely with machinists, Engine Rebuilders, Shop Foreman, and Operations Manager to support workflow
- Contribute to efficient job completion and overall shop productivity
- Work independently and as part of a team to achieve production and quality goals
- Follow all shop safety procedures and protocols
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in machining or a related field
- Proficiency with manual machining equipment, including mills and lathes
- Experience working within tight tolerances (± .0005)
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling
- Ability to accurately use precision measuring tools, including inside and outside micrometers
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including GD&T
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the role, including lifting up to 80 lbs
Industry & Technical Background:
- Experience in a machining, manufacturing, or industrial environment is considered an asset
- Experience with engine components or precision repair work is beneficial
- Familiarity with rotating assemblies and balancing processes is beneficial
Education & Training:
- Formal machinist training, apprenticeship, or trade certification is considered an asset
- Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered
Other Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
