Your Opportunity:
This opportunity is with the Northeast Community Health Centre, Emergency Department. This facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department, and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. The Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated member of the interdisciplinary health care team and is responsible for providing direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and the safety of the patient, and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. These services are provided under supervision and direction of the Register Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or regulated healthcare professional in accordance with their designated colleges’ supervision guidelines. The type of supervision required (direct or indirect) will depend on the complexity of the task or procedure being assigned, the stability of the patient and the skill level of the HCA performing the task. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good command of the English language. Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision. Physical capability of performing all aspects of the role (bending, crouching, kneeling, overhead lifting, and mobilization of bariatric patients).
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with recent (within the last 2 years) Emergency, or acute care, experience.
