Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Diagnostic Imaging Radiation Safety Manager, the position is responsible for the safe use of radiation and radioactive materials as outlined in the Radiation Safety/Protection program (RSP/RPP). The position supports Diagnostic Imaging radiation safety activities primarily at the Calgary Radiopharmaceutical Center (CRC) and Cyclotron with cross-coverage at other facilities and with other programs. The Radiation Safety Officer is a key contributor for the development, implementation, maintenance of the RSP/RPP as well as ensures compliance in the zone(s) and with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) licenses.

As the Radiation Safety Officer, you will support radiation safety activities and will be responsible for the safe use of radiation and radioactive materials. You will oversee the continuing development, implementation, maintenance and compliance of the Radiation Safety/Protection Program (RSP/RPP) and act as the primary contact with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The Radiation Safety Officer will also promote a radiation safety culture through the development of practices and programs, consultations, worksite assessments and training.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or engineering related field from a recognized university. Technical certification in a related field with the appropriate Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum two years of experience in radiation safety activities; experience with similar licensed activities is an asset. Knowledge of regulatory/licensing bodies, legislation, and requirements related to Nuclear Medicine, radiopharmacy and/or radiation devices. Experience in strategic planning, policy development, leadership, and project/program management, with the ability to consider long-term and provincial implications. Strong leadership, communication, listening, facilitation, mentoring, and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups and staff at all levels. Promotes collaborative decision-making and demonstrates a strong quality and safety mindset, including Just Culture and Lean/Six Sigma principles. Expertise in risk analysis and crisis management, with sound judgement, creativity, and the ability to anticipate challenges and develop solutions. Strong organizational and decision-making skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, electronic calendars, and internet-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or PhD. Lean/Six Sigma black belt training and certification. Project management and change leadership training and certification.
