Duties The successful candidate will provide support within Operative Services Level III, including the operating theatres and recovery room, as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. Required responsibilities include transporting and transferring patients throughout the perioperative environment; assisting both nursing and medical staff with surgical positioning and preparation of patients undergoing surgery; cleaning, set up and restocking of operating rooms; and safe handling, movement and transport of patients, medical equipment and sterile products. The role involves frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of equipment and supplies in a fast-paced surgical environment. Successful candidates must have the ability to accommodate 6 weeks of full-time orientation, including weekdays, weekends and shift work.
Description:
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Required Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current Basic Life Support (Level C) is required. Must be able to read and communicate fluently in the English language. Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidential information. Must possess the physical fitness and strength required to safely perform the duties of the position, including frequent pushing, pulling, lifting and moving heavy equipment, as well as assisting with patient transfers and positioning. Must be reliable and dependable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current employment in a Service Worker II position or higher is an asset. Knowledge of anatomy and body mechanics is an asset, along with a genuine interest in health care and a desire to help others.
