About The Role

AltaGas is seeking Engineering Students to join several teams across our business. Depending on your education, interests, and business needs, successful candidates may be placed in Automation & Controls, Operations Engineering, or Integrity & Reliability Engineering.
As an Engineering Student, you will work alongside experienced professionals on projects that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical energy infrastructure. You'll gain valuable technical and professional experience while contributing to meaningful work across our facilities and operations.
You'll be joining highly collaborative teams where questions are encouraged, knowledge is shared, and team members are committed to helping each other learn and succeed.
What You'll Do
Depending on your team placement, your responsibilities may include:
Automation & Controls
- Support automation, control system, and operational technology (OT) projects across AltaGas facilities.
- Assist with the maintenance, testing, and optimization of industrial control systems and related technologies.
- Analyze operational data and system performance to identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and facility operations.
- Support system upgrades, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, and technical specialists to support safe and reliable facility operations.
Operations Engineering
- Support projects focused on improving the performance, reliability, and efficiency of AltaGas facilities.
- Analyze operational and process data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with engineering studies, reporting, and risk management initiatives.
- Help develop tools, models, and processes that support day-to-day operations and long-term business objectives.
- Work alongside experienced engineers to solve real-world operational challenges.
Integrity & Reliability Engineering
- Support initiatives focused on equipment reliability, asset integrity, and long-term lifecycle management of critical infrastructure.
- Analyze equipment and maintenance data to identify trends, support reliability assessments, and improve asset performance.
- Assist with preventive maintenance optimization, criticality assessments, and risk-based decision-making activities.
- Support maintenance readiness activities for projects, including equipment data management, documentation, and inventory-related initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineers and operations teams to improve reliability, standardize processes, and enhance the effectiveness of maintenance programs.
Across All Engineering Teams
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the business.
- Participate in engineering projects from planning through execution.
- Analyze technical data and present findings and recommendations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance and safety.
- Gain exposure to the energy industry and midstream operations.
What You'll Bring
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering co-op program pursuing a degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechatronics, Civil, or a related discipline.
- Available to complete a 16-month work term beginning in May 2027 or 4 Month Term with a May 2027 Start Date.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- A valid drivers license and comfortability with going out into an industrial setting (for the Operations Team)
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
