Job description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Materials Lab Technician to join our growing CCIL-certified geotechnical laboratory in Concord. In this role, you will be instrumental in executing field and laboratory testing to support foundation design, construction projects, and site development evaluations.
You will ensure that all subsurface materials and engineered fills meet stringent project specifications and regulatory requirements. Working closely with project engineers and field crews, you will play a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance, safety, and operational efficiency within the lab and out in the field.
Role Accountabilities
- Perform comprehensive laboratory testing on soil, aggregates, and asphalt, including sieve analysis and compaction, ensuring strict adherence to CCIL standards.
- Conduct in-situ testing, soil sampling, and assist with borehole drilling operations during comprehensive geotechnical investigations.
- Monitor the placement and compaction of engineered fill materials by conducting field density and moisture content tests.
- Safely handle and operate nuclear density gauges for field compaction testing in strict compliance with radiation safety protocols.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot field and laboratory testing equipment to ensure accurate functionality and prevent operational delays.
- Implement quality control processes, accurately document real-time test results, and prepare reliable data reports for project engineers and clients.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven hands-on experience in geotechnical investigations, laboratory materials testing, and field operations monitoring.
- Certifications: Active CCIL certification for Soil, Aggregate, and Asphalt is considered an asset.
- Safety Credentials: Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification for the proper use and oversight of nuclear gauges is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with industry-specific software (such as gINT and Geo Software), AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel and Word).
- Professional Affiliations: Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or active membership with OACETT is a strong asset.
- Core Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and effectively manage project schedules.

The salary range for this position is $71,280-$106,902. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
