At our Stratford Facility we fabricate and assemble components for heavy truck, defense and off-road equipment companies. We feature fitting and welding, metal forming, saw cutting, painting, assembly departments and manufacture everything from small components to large structures, sheet metal to heavy plate.
Position Summary: The laser manufacturing technician operates, sets up, and maintains industrial laser equipment like fiber cutters and welding systems to fabricate parts with high precision. This role combines technical programming and setup skills for optimum utilization of the laser cutting process. It will set up, program, and run off product with various laser cutting equipment to meet drawing specifications and specific GD&T
Primary Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation: Program and run CNC laser equipment using digital blueprints and design software.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts and verify dimensions against work orders.
- Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance on optics, resonators, and mechanical components.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose laser alignment issues, software errors, and mechanical or hydraulic malfunctions.
- Create and optimize programs for laser cutting, and sheet metal equipment
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models
- Select tooling, materials, and processes to maximize efficiency and minimize waste
- Design manufacturing fixtures as needed
- Establish routings according to TRUMPF standards
- Collaborate with production team to troubleshoot and improve processes
- Develop and maintain a LPPS – laser process planning sheet, which will record all parameters required for parts – this will establish a historic library in the event parts need to be ran again
- Maximize nesting software of material utilization
- Create and maintain ONS – optimized nesting sheet – which will highlight utilization to sheet size for program as required by program management
Quality & Compliance
- Generate first off part to acceptable criteria and sign off by quality before starting production run
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and print – ensuring to confirm if CAD or Print is master before starting the cutting process
- Assist with internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of the factory over all goals.
- Complies with requirements as outlined in the company handbook and OHSA.
- Follows and comply with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Engineering degree or diploma or programming cert i.e. Mastercam or Trumpf certified combined with 5 years laser cutting experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience with laser programming
- Proficiency with CAD software and programming language
- Familiarity with TRUMPF equipment and standards
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with 3 axis and or 5 axis laser cutting with wither fiber optic or CO2 lasers
Equipment/ Tools/ Technology Used:
- SigmaNEST software
- MasterCAM software
- SolidWorks software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may involve standing or walking for extended periods, exposure to loud noise, and working in various temperature conditions.
- Occasional lifting or moving of materials or equipment up to 25 lbs.
