Our client is seeking a skilled, hands-on General Accountant with strong Accounts Payable expertise to support our fast-paced HVAC/R operations. This role is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of our service and installation projects, ensuring accurate vendor management, job costing, and compliance.
The successful candidate will leverage their accounting and systems expertise to streamline workflows and support the continued growth of our business. The incumbent will also play a key role in strengthening our knowledge of our new accounting software, Sage Intacct, and the implementation of ADP Workforce Now.
Target Compensation: $70,000 – $75,000+ Benefits Package

Primary Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Financial Administration
- Process and code high-volume vendor invoices (approximately 300 per month) related to equipment procurement and service parts.
- Work closely with department managers to correct purchase orders and investigate invoice and cost variances.
- Maintain vendor files within accounting and field management software systems.
- Manage weekly cheque runs and electronic payments through Sage Intacct.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
General Accounting
- Maintain accounting schedules and prepare/post related journal entries, including fixed assets, depreciation, and prepaid expenses.
- Post weekly payroll journal entries.
- Assist in the month-end close process through account reconciliations, journal entry support, and variance analysis.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns and related tax working papers.
- Prepare and file monthly payroll remittances, including Employer Health Tax (EHT) and WSIB remittances.
- Support year-end reporting requirements, including T5018filings for subcontractors, T4 preparation, and annual EHT and WSIB filings.
Requirements
Industry Experience
- 3+ years of experience in the HVAC/R, mechanical, or construction trades sector is highly preferred.
Software Proficiency
- Advanced hands-on experience with QuickBooks is mandatory.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables ,are required.
- Experience with field service management software such as BuildOps or ServiceTitan is considered an asset.
- Experience with Sage Intacct and ADP Workforce Now is considered an asset.
Financial Acumen
- Strong understanding of A/P, A/R, and general ledger functions within service and project-based environments.
- Basic understanding of Canadian payroll processes and compliance requirements is considered an asset.
- Understands accounting and bookkeeping fundamentals
Communication
- Ability to communicate effectively with field technicians, vendors, department managers, and senior leadership.
