Union: ONA TW New or Replacement Position: Replacement Number of Vacancies: 3 Site: Toronto Western Hospital Department: Operating Room Reports to: Nurse Manager Hours: 37.5 hours per week Salary: $41.15 - $58.98 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable) Shifts: Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends/Holidays 0730-1530h, 0930-1730h, 1000-1800h, 1530-2330h, 2330-0730h Status: Permanent Full-Time As a member interprofessional Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The Operating Room at TWH has 17 OR Suites and 2 Block Rooms for Regional Anesthesia. The OR has the unique ability to provide technologically advanced investigations and treatment in image guided brain and spinal surgery. Many opportunities for additional education throughout the year including the Krembil Nursing Awards. The majority of patients require the following types of practice: Neurosurgery Spine Surgery Orthopedic Surgery Hand and Plastic Surgery General Surgery Urology Surgery Ophthalmology Surgery RoboticsApplying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN. Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure. Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession. Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care. Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested. The majority of our patients require the following: neurosurgery, spinal surgery, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, hand and plastic surgery, urological surgery and ophthalmic surgery.Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required. Flexible and able to work effectively and efficiently within a interdisciplinary patient care team. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. Excellent interpersonal, communication and decision making skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Responsibilities
Provide compassionate, collaborative, and competent perioperative nursing care in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and UHN policies. Evaluate and adapt nursing practice to improve patient care, participate in continuing education, and perform other assigned responsibilities.
Requirements
Requires current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, a BScN or equivalent, and completion of a recognized operating room nursing course. Candidates must be a member of the Perioperative Nurses Association and demonstrate strong teamwork, communication, decision-making, organizational, time-management, and computer skills.
