Job Title: Senior Analyst, Cost / Accountant

Our client, an established mining operator with a significant presence in British Columbia’s Elk Valley, is seeking a Senior Analyst, Cost / Accountant for a permanent, full-time opportunity.
Reporting to the Manager, Operating Excellence & Controller, the Senior Analyst, Cost / Accountant will provide financial analysis and insight to support both operational and strategic decision-making. The role will work closely with department leaders, business partners, and senior stakeholders to understand financial performance, identify trends and variances, and translate complex financial information into clear and meaningful business insights.
This is a varied operational finance position encompassing cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and month-end activities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of mining operations while becoming a key financial resource to operational leaders and decision-makers.
The position is based 100% onsite in the Elk Valley, and relocation to the area is required. The role also offers a compressed work schedule with every other Friday off, providing additional flexibility and personal time.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and coordinate budgets, forecasts, and monthly financial reporting
- Perform detailed cost, variance, and trend analysis to assess financial and operational performance against established plans and targets
- Apply strategic insight to financial data to support operational and business decision-making
- Consolidate detailed financial information into clear and concise reports for a variety of business audiences
- Develop financial reports, presentations, and supporting materials for senior leadership and departmental review meetings
- Work closely with department heads to explain financial performance, variances, forecasts, and results against established plans
- Provide financial guidance and support to operational leaders to strengthen financial understanding and decision-making
- Coordinate and support month-end accounting activities
- Provide financial analysis to support operational planning and broader business decisions
- Collaborate with operational and support teams to improve financial processes, reporting, systems, and overall efficiency
- Assist with the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of departmental financial policies and procedures
- Build effective working relationships across finance, operational, and support functions
- Participate in and adhere to organizational health and safety programs and policies
Qualifications:
- CPA designation or currently working toward a CPA, combined with relevant professional experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in operational accounting or finance
- Strong cost accounting and technical accounting knowledge
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and trend analysis
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong overall Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate findings clearly to financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to produce accurate work
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet challenging deadlines
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with department leaders, senior stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
- Previous experience within mining, natural resources, manufacturing, heavy industry, or another industrial environment is considered an asset
- Must be willing and able to relocate to the Elk Valley and work onsite
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary of $106,000–$131,000 per year, with the final offer based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies

This position is based onsite in a small community in British Columbia’s Elk Valley, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Relocation to the Elk Valley is required for the successful candidate.
