The Program Assistant provides direct and indirect client support, assists clinical staff in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and contributes to the overall functioning of the care unit. Working as part of an interprofessional team, the Program Assistant participates in client monitoring, supports therapeutic activities, documents observations, assists with transfers, and helps maintain safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
� Provide direct and indirect client support under the direction of clinical staff.
� Participate in client assessments and support care interventions as assigned.
� Carry out varying levels of client observation and monitor behavioural changes.
� Communicate behavioural observations, assessments, and client responses verbally and in writing.
� Accompany clients to medical clearances, appointments, and transfers as needed.
� Support and facilitate client participation in individual and group activities.
� Assist with client transportation and collection/delivery of supplies.
� Document observations in clinical records and required documentation tools.
� Identify and report potential crisis situations and intervene when appropriate.
� Contribute to maintaining safe, secure, and therapeutic environmental conditions.
� Promote and support a positive therapeutic milieu for clients.
� Participate in risk management, patient safety, and quality‑improvement activities.
� Collaborate with interprofessional team members and communicate effectively with clients, families, and staff.
� Perform duties in accordance with safety legislation, policies, and professional standards.
Qualifications
Requirements
� Secondary School diploma plus a Personal Care Worker Certificate OR enrollment in a health‑care related program.
� 6 months to 1 year of experience in a health‑care or related setting.
� Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
� Ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team.
� Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
� Ability to work respectfully with diverse client and staff populations.
� Familiarity with clinical care and issues related to mental health and/or addictions.
Nice-to-Haves
� CPR certification.
� Experience assisting with or facilitating therapeutic groups or activities.
� Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in another language.
Salary Range: $23.64– $29.15 per hour
