Job Description Summary:
The Student Ambassador (SA), under the supervision and direction of Engineering faculty or Convenor, will assist with Engineering lab tours, recruitment events such as open house events or high school student visits, provide support to prospective students, share personal experience to help inquirers, and involve with student orientation.
Job Description:
The Student Ambassador (SA) will work closely with faculty members to prepare and assist with preparing and organizing recruitment events, learn how to run lab equipment for demonstrations in the lab tours, answer questions about Engineering transfer programs from prospective students and their parents.
On this project, the SA will:
- Create interesting ideas and make souvenir tokens using 3D printing and the laser cutter.
- Contact prospective students about future events and collect feedback after the event.
- Attend the preparation meeting, assist and contribute to the work of connecting high school teachers and counsellors, arranging school visits and conducting surveys for dual credit courses.
- Learn how to run a wind tunnel and flow channel demo for open-house events.
- Communicate with visitors and introduce CapU Engineering Transfer program. Share personal experiences at CapU Engineering. Answer visitors’ questions or direct them to the appropriate CapU website, faculty or office for information.
Skills Required
- Finish at least one-semester coursework of Engineering Transfer Program
- Have good knowledge of Engineering Transfer Program curriculum, admission and transfer process.
- Have good knowledge of Engineering lab resources and equipment.
- Active listening and empathy
- Effective communication and story-telling
- Ability to work independently when needed and also in a team environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for student employment, a student must be in good academic standing with the University. Good standing is defined as having a GPA of 2.0 and no current notations regarding academic standing, student conduct or outstanding fees per policy S2003-003 Academic Standing, a copy of which can be found on the University's website.
Domestic students must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more (6 credits) courses at Capilano University throughout the work term; international students must: during the fall and winter semesters, be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of 9 credits at Capilano University throughout the work term; have a valid Study Permit.
Student employees are not required to be enrolled in courses during the summer term to maintain eligibility for employment; however, they must have been enrolled in a minimum of six credits during the preceding spring term. Furthermore, international students must abide by the terms of their work or study visas.
Students who complete their studies in the spring or summer terms may have their appointments extended until August 31 of the same year; students who complete their studies in the fall term may have their appointments extended until December 31 of the same year.
