Position Overview
The Business Risk Management Manager is responsible for ensuring robust and consistent oversight of business management risk aligned with the Client Services Delivery (CSD) Operational Governance Framework.
This role is pivotal in overseeing and strengthening the governance of business risks that are integral to the ultimate service delivery to our clients. The Business Risk Management Manager will balance strategic influence and tactical execution, ensuring that the firm’s operational governance frameworks, controls, and processes effectively manage risks, promote transparency and accountability, drive continuous improvement, and support seamless, high-quality client service.
This role partners with Business Unit leaders and Designated Governance Officers (DGOs) to ensure service delivery governance is clearly and consistently applied and outcomes are aligned to strategic goals across Client Service Delivery and CIBC Mellon
Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain Business Risk Management products and services to support compliance with business risk requirements, regulatory obligations, industry best practices, and the expectations of CIBC Mellon and its parent organizations.
- Provide thought leadership by assessing and challenging existing service delivery models and championing innovative, data-driven solutions that strengthen decision-making, risk management, and operational efficiency.
- Establish and maintain the first line of defense (1BLOD) service inventory, including Service Level 1, 2, and 3 taxonomy and process mapping for Critical Services, Significant Business Services, and Standard Business Services.
- Develop and maintain the annual scenario testing schedule and scenario library for critical services within CSD.
- Execute scenario testing for critical services in accordance with OSFI Guideline E-21 and document results, actions, and outcomes.
- Coordinate scenario testing with Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery, and Enterprise Operational Resilience as part of the CSD program to assess service delivery impacts to clients and parent organizations CIBC and BNY.
- Conduct service impact and harm assessments across the full service delivery taxonomy for CSD.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Operational Resilience and BCM to execute scenario testing for impacts to all critical services.
- Support the development and enhancement of Operational Resilience standards, policies, and procedures for 1BLOD.
- Perform operational risk reviews, design and implement controls, and monitor risks within ARCHER.
- Assess the business risk impacts of Operational Resilience exercises and Risk and Control Self-Assessments.
- Coordinate remediation and follow-up actions arising from second line review and challenge activities for 1BLOD.
- Coordinate remediation and follow-up actions arising from third line audit findings for 1BLOD.
- Monitor regulatory change intake and implement changes that impact business risk within CSD.
- Partner with the business, second line, IT, Business Continuity Management, and Operational Risk stakeholders to assess and respond to regulatory changes affecting 1BLOD and business leadership.
- Update risk controls and related documentation in response to regulatory change.
- Maintain regulatory submissions and related records for 1BLOD.
- Review third-party and parent company contracts to assess terms, billing, operational resilience implications, BCM considerations, and potential service disruption impacts, including financial, market, client, reputational, and regulatory risk.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Asset Servicing experience across operations, service, product management, risk management or governance.
- Expertise in one or more products or services within the Asset Servicing industry.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of service delivery governance, operational risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to think strategically, act with initiative, and deliver results in complex, evolving contexts
- Demonstrated self-starter with a track record of independently initiating and driving complex projects to completion, while also excelling in collaborative, cross-functional environments.
- Ability to apply advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to identify root causes, anticipate challenges, and develop forward-thinking solutions that drive organizational success.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across a variety of teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability to evolving business and regulatory landscapes.

Job Specific Competencies
- The salary band for this position ranges between $98,000 - $148,000
