Senior Java Engineer - CPPIB
Duration: 6-Month Contract + Potential Extension

Rate: $70 - $85 (based on experience)
Role Overview:
CPPIB is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join its Capital Markets engineering team and support a large-scale modernization initiative involving the transformation of a legacy monolithic application into a scalable, cloud-native microservices architecture. This is an 80% backend / 20% frontend role requiring strong Java and Spring Boot expertise, along with hands-on React and AWS experience.
Must-Haves & Key Responsibilities
- 10+ years of strong enterprise Java development experience, with advanced hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot for building scalable, high-performance applications.
- Design, develop, and maintain Spring Boot microservices and play a key role in decomposing and refactoring a large legacy monolithic application into distributed services.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, service design, performance, scalability, security, and resiliency.
- Hands-on experience with AWS/cloud environments and developing or deploying cloud-native applications; exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform is highly desirable.
- Strong SQL/database knowledge, including writing complex queries and SQL joins; experience with Mockito and automated testing frameworks is a plus.
- Hands-on React development experience, with the ability to contribute to UI enhancements and frontend features while remaining primarily backend-focused.
- Experience within Capital Markets or Financial Services, ideally with exposure to FX, Equities, Derivatives, Public Markets, portfolio management, or front-office trading workflows.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, architects, and Capital Markets stakeholders; participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and engineering best practices while working independently in a fast-paced environment.
