Location: Toronto, Ontario
Work model: Hybrid remote/in-studio
Annual salary: $55,000–$60,000 CAD
Dream Theory is an AI-assisted visual effects studio working across commercial, film, and television projects. We combine traditional VFX techniques with generative technology to deliver high-quality work through practical, evolving production workflows.
We’re looking for a Junior–Intermediate VFX Compositor / Generalist to join our growing Toronto team, with a preference for artists whose primary compositing tool is Adobe After Effects.
This role focuses on compositing and shot finishing, with opportunities to contribute across a range of VFX and generative workflows. It’s ideal for an artist with strong fundamentals who wants to develop their craft while exploring how AI fits into professional post-production.
Experience with generative tools is a plus, but isn’t required. We’re equally interested in artists with solid technical and creative instincts who are eager to learn, experiment, and adapt.
What you’ll be doing
- Compositing AI-generated and traditional VFX elements into live-action plates
- Preparing footage through roto, masking, tracking, keying, paint, and clean-up
- Matching colour, lighting, grain, focus, and movement to create seamless final images
- Working with producers and senior artists to develop practical shot approaches
- Taking feedback and carrying revisions through to polished final shots
- Troubleshooting technical challenges and checking work against delivery requirements
- Contributing to motion graphics, generative workflows, and other generalist tasks as needed
- Helping refine internal workflows as the studio evolves
What we’re looking for
- Approximately 1–4 years of experience in visual effects, compositing, motion graphics, or post-production
- Strong compositing software skills, preferably in Adobe After Effects
- A solid understanding of compositing principles and shot finishing
- Experience with roto, tracking, keying, paint, and clean-up
- A good eye for detail, continuity, realism, and image quality
- Comfort working across multiple projects and adapting to evolving workflows
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative attitude
- Curiosity about generative tools and their role in professional VFX
Nice to have
- Experience with generative platforms such as Higgsfield, Google Flow, Runway, or similar tools
- Experience with Blender, 3D animation, or motion graphics
- Familiarity with Mocha, SynthEyes, PFTrack, or other tracking software
- Experience working on commercial, broadcast, or feature productions
- Experience preparing footage or visual references for generative workflows
We’re a boutique studio, so versatility is one of our biggest strengths. Our artists collaborate closely, contribute across disciplines, and help shape how AI-assisted visual effects are used in professional production.
Dream Theory operates as a hybrid remote/in-studio workplace. This position is based in Toronto and requires regular access to our downtown studio.
