VFX Supervisor
Dream Theory | Annual salary: $80,000 CAD
Dream Theory is an AI-assisted visual effects studio working across commercial, film, and television projects. We combine established VFX craft with generative technology to deliver high-quality work through practical, evolving production workflows.
We’re looking for a VFX Supervisor who is comfortable working across both Nuke and Adobe After Effects pipelines, with strong compositing fundamentals and an interest in developing how generative tools fit into professional post-production.
This is a hands-on role in a boutique studio. You’ll guide artists, develop shot approaches, and oversee image quality while contributing directly to compositing and shot finishing. It could suit an experienced lead or senior artist ready to take on broader supervisory responsibility.
What you’ll be doing
- Supervising shots from initial breakdown through final delivery, setting clear creative and technical direction
- Working hands-on in Nuke and After Effects to develop looks, solve challenging shots, and deliver finished composites
- Reviewing artists’ work, providing actionable feedback, and maintaining consistency across sequences
- Developing shot approaches that combine traditional VFX techniques with generative tools
- Guiding footage preparation through roto, tracking, masking, and clean-up, and integrating generated elements back into live-action plates
- Working with production to scope work, estimate artist time, and flag technical or schedule risks early
- Translating client feedback into clear direction and helping communicate practical creative solutions
- Refining workflows and supporting artists as the studio’s pipeline evolves
What we’re looking for
- A strong background in professional VFX, with experience leading artists, reviewing shots, or taking ownership of sequences
- Proficiency in both Nuke and Adobe After Effects, with the ability to troubleshoot and support artists in either pipeline
- Strong compositing and finishing skills, including keying, tracking, paint, colour matching, and integrating elements into live-action footage
- A sharp eye for realism, lighting, movement, continuity, and image quality
- Comfort incorporating generative tools into production, including assessing their limitations and resolving inconsistencies through traditional VFX
- Clear communication, practical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to feedback and mentorship
- The ability to balance creative ambition with budgets, deadlines, and delivery requirements
Nice to have
- Experience with generative platforms such as Higgsfield, Google Flow, Runway, or similar tools
- Experience with Blender, 3D workflows, or motion graphics
- Familiarity with pipeline development, scripting, or workflow automation
- Experience contributing to bids, client reviews, or on-set VFX supervision
We’re a small studio where people contribute across disciplines and help shape how the work gets done. This is an opportunity to take creative ownership, support a growing team, and develop new approaches to visual effects while maintaining a high standard of craft.
To apply, please send your résumé, demo reel, and a short introduction to [email protected]. Include a brief breakdown of your contribution to the work shown, along with any relevant leadership or generative VFX experience.
