Job Purpose
The Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operations of the school kitchen by assisting with food preparation, meal service, cleaning, and general kitchen organization within the Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA). Working under the supervision of the Lead Cook and alongside the Cook, the Kitchen Assistant helps ensure that meals are prepared, served, and cleaned up in a safe, efficient, and organized manner. This role contributes to the delivery of school nutrition programs by assisting with basic food preparation tasks, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supporting a safe food service environment for students. The Kitchen Assistant helps ensure students have access to healthy, nutritious meals in a clean, welcoming kitchen environment.

Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Training in culinary arts, food preparation, or hospitality is considered an asset.
Certification Requirements
- Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check is required.
- Food Safe or Food Handler Certification – Preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in food service or kitchen environments is considered an asset.
- Experience working in schools or institutional kitchens is beneficial but not required.

Working Conditions
Duties include, but are not limited to
Food Preparation Support
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, cutting, and organizing ingredients.
- Help prepare food items according to instructions provided by the Lead Cook or Cook.
- Assist in organizing food preparation areas.
Meal Service Assistance
- Assist with serving meals to students when required.
- Support meal distribution and food service activities.
- Help ensure serving areas remain clean and organized.
Kitchen Cleaning and Sanitation
- Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and kitchen equipment.
- Clean kitchen surfaces, counters, floors, and preparation areas.
- Assist in maintaining proper sanitation standards throughout the kitchen.
Food Safety Practices
- Follow food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food items.
- Assist with maintaining safe kitchen practices and proper use of cleaning products.
Inventory and Organization
- Help organize food storage areas and refrigerators.
- Assist with stocking supplies and monitoring kitchen inventory.
- Notify the Lead Cook when supplies need replenishment.
Team Support
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Cook and Cook to support kitchen operations.
- Follow directions provided by kitchen leadership.
- Assist with other kitchen-related tasks as required
Conditions of Employment
- The coordinator is required to work a total of 40 hours per week: Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:00PM (Essential Service).
- Required to work a total of 40 hours per week
- Primary location: Enoch Daycare.
- Must be physically fit; walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, crawl, stand for long periods of time or sit for long periods of time, ability to lift 50lbs. or more materials and/or equipment, etc.
- Must sign and adhere to the Enoch Cree Nation Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.
