Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets and D365 Module Implementation (Contract)
Envy Consulting | Greater Toronto Area | Hybrid | 8 week contract, potential to convert perm
About the opportunity
Envy Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, growing organization in the GTA whose finance team is mid-transformation following a change in ownership. The company has a fixed asset module in Microsoft Dynamics 365 that has never been used, and no asset-level register behind its fixed asset balances. Depreciation has historically been run on pooled written-down values by category. The controller is rebuilding the register from the ground up and needs a dedicated, hands-on accountant to do it with him. This is reconstruction work, not maintenance. You will see how a fixed asset sub-ledger gets built, tested, and loaded into an ERP from scratch, which is experience most accountants never get.
What you’ll do
- Build the fixed asset register in Excel: roughly six years of additions across categories (computer equipment, leasehold improvements, vehicles, equipment, and others), allocated by branch and division
- Pull supporting invoices from the company’s integrated document system inside D365, identify the branch and division each asset belongs to, and record original cost with support
- Calculate accumulated depreciation for each year’s additions using the company’s historical method (declining balance, half-year rule), so cost and accumulated depreciation are ready to load
- Help reconcile the rebuilt register to the trial balance, and quantify and explain net book value differences by category
- Help test the D365 fixed asset module: populate vendor-supplied upload templates, build and execute a test plan, log issues, and work with the Dynamics partner on fixes
- Load the final register into the module and verify depreciation calculates correctly
- Pitch in on other accounting clean-up as the team uncovers it. The controller wants someone broader than a fixed-asset-only mindset.
What you bring
- A solid, practical understanding of fixed assets and depreciation: capitalization, additions and disposals, depreciation methods, half-year rule, accumulated depreciation, net book value
- Intermediate Excel. You can build and audit depreciation schedules with formulas, use lookups, and keep a large multi-tab workbook organized. You do not need to be a power user.
- Systems-savvy and quick to learn new software. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or another ERP’s fixed asset module is a strong asset; experience testing or implementing a module is a bigger one.
- Inquisitive by nature. When a number doesn’t make sense, you dig in and tell someone rather than move on.
- Able to work independently and keep a project moving with light supervision
- 3+ years of accounting experience. CPA designation or progress toward it is nice to have, not required.
