Job description:
GenMec ACL Inc. is seeking experienced Drywallers to join our team in Mallaig, Alberta. The Drywaller will be responsible for the installation and finishing of drywall systems on a commercial construction project. This role requires hands-on drywall experience, the ability to work independently, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and site safety.
Job Type: Contract, with opportunity to move to continued employment
Expected hours: 10 hrs / day
Project duration: 2–3 months
Role Responsibilities
- Measure, cut, fit, and install drywall sheets on walls and ceilings
- Install drywall over wood and steel stud framing
- Install and secure drywall using appropriate fasteners, tools, and techniques
- Measure and cut drywall for openings, corners, electrical fixtures, doors, and other building components
- Install corner bead, trims, and other drywall accessories
- Perform drywall taping and finishing, including applying joint compound and embedding tape
- Apply multiple coats of compound and sand surfaces to achieve a smooth, finished surface
- Patch, repair, and prepare drywall surfaces as required
- Read and interpret drawings, measurements, and project specifications
- Identify and correct deficiencies in drywall installation and finishing
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms as required
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Follow company and site-specific safety policies and procedures
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Coordinate with other trades and site supervision to support project schedules
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support project completion
Role Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of drywall installation and/or finishing experience; commercial construction experience preferred
- Experience with boarding, taping, mudding, sanding, and drywall finishing
- Experience working with steel stud framing and commercial drywall systems considered an asset
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, and install drywall
- Ability to produce clean, quality finishes with minimal supervision
- Comfortable using drywall tools, hand tools, and power tools
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle to get to and from work
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Physically fit and able to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks, including lifting and positioning drywall sheets
- Comfortable working from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms
- Ability to work 10-hour shifts, overtime, and weekends as required
- Good understanding of workplace and construction site safety practices
