The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. The Unit Retail Marketing Manager (URMM) is a hands-on retail leader responsible for driving Same Store Sales (SSS), transaction, basket size, and overall retail performance at Durham College.
Working closely with unit Operations and the Retail Execution Partner, the URMM turns retail strategies and programs into consistent execution at the unit level. This role combines sales-building, merchandising, promotional activation, brand standards, consumer engagement, and performance analysis to identify opportunities and translate them into action.
The URMM is the on-site champion for retail execution, ensuring programs come to life effectively while identifying local opportunities to improve the consumer experience and drive measurable growth.

Retail Execution & Sales Growth
- Drive Same Store Sales growth by executing sales-building initiatives and identifying opportunities to increase transactions, basket size, and average cheque.
- Lead the unit-level execution of national, sector, and regional programs, promotions, campaigns, and limited-time offers.
- Maintain a strong understanding of unit sales performance and use available data to identify strengths, gaps, and growth opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to improve speed of service and the overall consumer journey while maintaining brand and operational standards.
- Bring forward local insights and opportunities that can strengthen standardized programs and better meet the needs of the account and its consumers.
Execution Excellence & Accountability
- Champion retail standards and ensure initiatives are executed consistently, accurately, and on time.
- Complete required Origami audits and use findings to build and close action plans with unit leadership.
- Regularly assess execution across the account, identifying gaps in merchandising, signage, product availability, pricing, promotional execution, and brand standards.
- Partner with operators to resolve identified opportunities and follow through to completion.
Planning, Promotions & Consumer Engagement
- Support the development and execution of a rolling 12-month retail and promotional calendar aligned with national programs, sector priorities, account needs, and local opportunities.
- Deliver engaging consumer experiences and events that increase participation and student experience.
- Support merchandising, signage, digital communications, and on-site activations to maximize the impact of retail programs.
- Identify opportunities to tailor execution to the unique needs of the account while maintaining required brand standards.
- Create and manage content for social media channels to support promotions, events, and consumer engagement.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Build strong partnerships with unit Operations and collaborate with the Retail Execution Partner to deliver regional and national priorities.
- Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Culinary, Brands, Compass Digital, and other partners to support successful program execution.
- Share unit results, consumer insights, challenges, and success stories to help inform future retail initiatives.
- Identify underperforming areas and work with unit leadership to develop targeted improvement plans.

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Marketing, Hospitality, Retail Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- At least two years of experience in retail, foodservice, hospitality, marketing, or a related operational environment.
- Strong retail business acumen with an understanding of the levers that influence sales, transactions, basket size, and consumer behaviour.
- Experience executing marketing, promotional, merchandising, or sales-building programs, ideally within foodservice or retail.
- Ability to interpret performance information, identify opportunities, and translate insights into practical action plans.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, influence others, and work effectively with operational teams.
- Excellent attention to detail with high standards for execution and brand consistency.
- Strong customer service mindset and a passion for improving the consumer experience.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced operating environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with social platforms such as Instagram
