Job Overview:
The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for providing advanced planning and scheduling expertise for major, multi-year capital projects valued at more than $50 million annually. This role supports project delivery, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives, milestones, and performance targets.
The position requires regular travel to construction sites to support project execution activities, monitor progress, and collaborate directly with project teams.
Travel Requirements:
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driver's abstract required.
Regular travel to project and construction sites within approximately 100 km of the Chatham office location.
Expected site presence of one to two days every two weeks.
Mileage and business-related travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead planning and scheduling activities for complex, multi-year projects exceeding $50 million in annual value.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze integrated project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Provide expert guidance on project planning, scheduling methodologies, and project controls best practices.
- Identify schedule risks, constraints, and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
- Interpret business and project requirements and translate them into effective scheduling solutions.
- Analyze schedule performance, progress trends, and forecasting data to support informed decision-making.
- Troubleshoot scheduling and project controls issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure schedule alignment and project integration.
- Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to project execution personnel.
- Facilitate planning sessions, schedule reviews, and project controls meetings.
- Evaluate project impacts and assess the implications of proposed changes, decisions, and solutions.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying innovative scheduling approaches and process enhancements.
- Support project reporting requirements and provide meaningful schedule insights to project leadership.
- Review work products for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in project controls and scheduling across the Major Projects organization.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or equivalent professional accreditation preferred.
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 2 years of construction, project execution, or major project experience.
- Demonstrated history of high performance supported by previous performance evaluations.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered a strong asset.
- Advanced proficiency and expert-level experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
