Senior Electrical Engineer – Design & Pre‑Construction
Can you sit down with a client, work out what they actually need, and design it without stacking up unnecessary safety margins?
Can you juggle changing priorities and customer requests while leading a small team and hitting all your deadlines?
We're looking for a senior electrical engineer to lead pre-construction and design for our growing electrical design-build division. You'll sit with clients, define their requirements, right-size the electrical distribution for light-industrial buildings, and take accountability for our designs.
You'll lead our two-person design & drafting team, work hand in hand with our estimating team, and help shape our design philosophy and processes. You'll also oversee our solar designs, be our technical contact with utilities, and serve as our APEGA Responsible Member as you help grow our solar and electrical business.
About Us
InfernoEnergy is a design-build electrical and solar contractor serving commercial and light-industrial clients across Alberta. Founded in 2019 by Curtis Craig, a Master Electrician and Professional Engineer, we built our reputation as one of Alberta's leading commercial solar contractors, designing and installing more than 25 MW of solar. In 2025, we launched a full electrical design-build division, which is growing quickly. Today, we sit at the intersection where electricity is used, generated, and stored in commercial buildings. By owning the electrical distribution design, we help customers bring their loads, solar, and future battery storage together, faster and at lower cost than working with separate trades & consultants.
Why Work at InfernoEnergy?
- Get in on the ground floor: our electrical design-build division launched in 2025 and is growing fast, and you'll shape our design philosophy and preconstruction process
- Build the engineering division: own its engineering standards, tools, processes, and team, with room for your role and your team to expand as we scale
- Work where the industry is heading: design at the intersection of electrical, solar, and battery storage, with the decisions in your hands from the first client meeting through IFC
Our Values
We hire for our values. The right candidate will show how they live them:
- Put Yourself in the Shoes of the Customer
- Provide Solutions
- Do What You Say
- Own the Outcome
- Never Stop Learning
- Set Our People Up for Success
About the Role
This is a full-time, in-person role based in our Edmonton office, reporting directly to our founder and President, Curtis Craig, P.Eng.

Key Accountabilities
- Pre-construction: meet with clients, define their requirements, and turn them into a clear electrical scope in the form of IFTs, IFBPs & IFCs
- Client communication: explain complicated electrical concepts in plain English, so clients understand what matters and why
- Project management: run multiple concurrent projects through pre-construction, keeping them organized and on schedule
- Right-sizing: size services, distribution, and equipment from real load data and proper Canadian Electrical Code demand factors, so clients don't pay for capacity they'll never use
- Design leadership: drive the electrical design in collaboration with electrical and solar project management and estimating, make timely decisions, and stamp drawings for light-industrial projects
- Estimating support: collaborate with our estimating team so designs are optimized for cost and schedule and fully coordinated with the estimate
- APEGA Responsible Member: serve as the Responsible Member under our Permit to Practice, maintaining our Professional Practice Management Plan and the quality of our engineering work
- Electrical service applications and coordination with the utility companies
- Renewables and Utilities: review and stamp our Solar and BESS drawings at the design and IFC stage, remain up to date with the utility interconnection requirements and procedures for renewables and be our technical contact with utility companies
- Team leadership: lead and develop our two-person design team and set the standard for our drawings
- Systems and processes: build repeatable design standards, templates, tools, and processes
Qualifications Required
- Professional Engineer licensed with APEGA, or licensed in another Canadian province and able to register with APEGA (an APEGA licence is required to serve as our Responsible Member)
- 8+ years of commercial/light industrial electrical design experience, including several years taking professional responsibility & stamping drawings
- Experience designing electrical systems for commercial or light-industrial buildings, including motor, process, and equipment loads; life safety systems; lighting & lighting controls; data
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code & National Building Code of Canada
- Demonstrated experience leading a small team and managing multiple concurrent projects

Differentiators
- Commercial solar PV design experience (strongly preferred)
- Experience in a design-build or contractor environment
- Battery storage or protective relay experience
- Strong client-facing skills: you build rapport, bring humor, while keeping it professional
