About Our Client
Our client is a global leader in rail technology. They deliver signaling and train control solutions to major transit systems around the world. Their Toronto-area team supports large-scale rail signaling projects in the United Kingdom.
Position Summary
The Intermediate Software Analyst ensures the quality of software delivered for large-scale rail signaling projects. This is a testing role, not a development role. The work focuses on in-phase, black-box, interface and system integration testing. You'll work closely with software developers and systems engineers to create, run and evaluate software tests, and you'll build a deep understanding of CBTC signaling systems and rail operations.
A proactive mindset and the ability to ramp up quickly are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze system, subsystem and software requirements to define validation methods and test cases
- Develop and maintain test plans, procedures and test cases. Where no procedure exists, write new test procedures and operational scenarios.
- Perform interface and system integration testing in the lab and in desktop simulation environments
- Run operational and stress ("bust-it") test scenarios
- Analyze logs, data files and design documentation to investigate test anomalies
- Work with developers and systems engineers to find the root cause of failures
- Prepare test reports and clearly communicate results to engineering staff, supervisors and customers
- Develop test automation where applicable
- Promote a strong safety culture and identify safety-related defects early
- Continuously look for ways to improve testing methods and processes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 3–5 years of software testing experience
- CBTC or rail signaling testing experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with testing experience from other safety-critical transportation industries, such as aerospace or automotive, will also be considered.
- Experience with interface and system integration testing
- Ability to analyze logs and investigate defects
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Ability to work independently and manage your own priorities across multiple projects
- Ability to work on-site in Scarborough at least 2 days per week, plus lab days as needed
Nice to Have
- Jira and DOORS
- Experience with simulation tools
- Scripting or automation in Python, Perl or VB script
- C/C++ knowledge
Interview Process
- Round 1: a 30-minute Teams interview
