Alternative Learning Team - Consultant

Temporary Position Starting October 2026 - June 30, 2027
Medicine Hat Public School Division is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time consultant position on the Alternative Learning Team. Reporting to the Associate Superintendent of Learning and Student Supports, the consultant will deliver consultative, collaborative, and coaching support to schools in the areas of social and emotional learning as well as behaviour support. Working in close collaboration with the Intervention Coordinator and Alternative Learning Team members, the candidate will partner with administrators, teachers, educational assistants, and service providers system-wide to support educational programs for students with complex and diverse learning needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, skill and a commitment to:
- Collaboratively working alongside school teams to create alternative learning plans for students with diverse learning needs.
- Understanding positive behaviour supports and how to proactively manage challenging behaviours and design and support the implementation of positive behaviour support plans.
- Knowledge and experience in differentiating instruction and modified programming.
- Understanding of the Collaborative Response Model and the Continuum of Supports.
- Ability to deliver professional development and build teacher capacity.
Preference will be given to candidates with a background in inclusive education and/or proven experience in working with students with diverse and complex needs.
