Located in the Port Credit area of Mississauga, ON, the residence is set in a quiet neighborhood near the Credit River and Lake Ontario. Since 1974, the management team has focused on individualized, holistic care that supports the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each resident. Role Description The Part Time Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals that align with residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and care plans. Day-to-day tasks include following established menus and recipes, ensuring safe food handling and kitchen sanitation, and coordinating meal service in a timely and organized manner. The Cook collaborates with dietary staff, nursing staff, and other team members to accommodate special diets and support an enjoyable dining experience for residents. Additional responsibilities may include maintaining inventory, receiving and storing food supplies, and adhering to all health, safety, and infection control standards. This is a part time, on-site role located at Mississauga Long Term Care Facility in Mississauga, ON.
Qualifications
- Experience in institutional or commercial cooking, preferably in long-term care, hospital, or retirement home settings.
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices, kitchen sanitation, and infection control standards.
- Ability to follow standardized recipes, menus, and dietary guidelines, including therapeutic and modified diets.
- Strong time management and organizational skills to prepare and serve meals within scheduled timeframes.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with dietary, nursing, and care staff.
- Commitment to resident-centered service, with patience and respect for older adults and individuals with diverse needs.
- Basic math and record-keeping skills for portion control, temperature logs, and inventory tracking.
- Relevant culinary training, Food Handler certification, or equivalent education and experience; additional nutrition or gerontology training is an asset.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, such as standing for extended periods and safely lifting or moving supplies.
