Assistant Manager – Contract Division

JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Manager – Contract plays an important role in supervising the day-to-day lease accounting and contract modifications. Reporting directly to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Assistant Manager - Contract is responsible for managing rent-related accounting activities, processing accounts receivable and payable transactions, reconciling rent statements, and maintaining accurate records for assigned stores.
This role requires strong organizational and analytical skills to ensure the timely and accurate processing of rent invoices, payments, reconciliations, and franchisee communications. The Assistant Manager – Contract will work closely with landlords, franchisees, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies, support collections, maintain vendor and customer information, and assist with ongoing operational and accounting processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the monthly IFRS 16 rent accounting process, including rent expense and revenue postings, required adjustments, and reconciliation of clearing and offset accounts. Review the monthly rent analyses and ensure amounts are accurate, appropriately supported and reconciled to SAP S/4.
- Oversee store and lease population reconciliations to ensure Corporate, Dark Store, Operator, head lease, and sublease information is complete and accurate.
- Identify, analyze, document, and review lease and sublease modifications in accordance with IFRS 16, including updating SAP S/4 and posting the required accounting entries.
- Partner with the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams to ensure accurate and timely processing, reconciliation, and resolution of lease-related transactions.
- Manage the IFRS 16 valuation process in SAP S/4, including contract valuations, valuation postings, and related clearing and interest activity.
- Partner with Legal and other teams to identify new or amended leases.
- Maintain the IFRS 16 modification tracking and supporting audit trail
- Maintain and review the appropriate incremental borrowing rates (IBR) and ensure required valuation adjustments are reflected in SAP S/4.
- Review reconciliations of Right-of-Use Assets (ROUA), Lease Liabilities (LL), and Finance Lease Receivables (FLR) to the general ledger and SAP lease accounting module.
- Support quarterly assessments by reviewing the Dark Store liability, provisions and impairment analyses.
- Review guarantee calculations and supporting analyses required for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Provide IFRS 16 support, including financial statement disclosures, MD&A support, audit deliverables and other financial reporting requirements.
- Play an active role in quarter-end and year-end close, including cutoff procedures, reconciliations, financial statement support, and coordination with external auditors.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, streamline processes, and improve the efficiency and accuracy of lease accounting and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation required.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and real estate accounting is considered an asset.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of team management and progressive accounting experience; experience with lease accounting or IFRS 16 is considered a strong asset. Experience working with accounting or SAP ERP systems preferred
- Retail or restaurant industry experience is considered an asset
