New Value Solutions (NVS), a national IT consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist / Predictive Analytics Lead to support a major Canadian airline on a Finance initiative focused on developing a net-new predictive cost model. The Senior Data Scientist will lead the technical modelling workstream and work closely with Finance, Data Science, Engineering, and business stakeholders to develop forecasting, profitability planning, scenario modelling, and what-if analysis capabilities using Python and advanced analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of a new predictive cost model supporting financial forecasting and profitability planning.
- Work with Finance and business stakeholders to understand cost drivers, forecasting requirements, assumptions, and analytical objectives.
- Analyze large and complex financial, operational, and business datasets to identify relationships, trends, and predictive variables.
- Develop predictive models using Python and appropriate statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model selection, training, testing, and validation.
- Develop scenario modelling and what-if analysis capabilities to support commercial and financial decision-making.
- Evaluate model performance using appropriate statistical and machine learning metrics.
- Identify model limitations, assumptions, risks, and areas requiring additional data or refinement.
- Work closely with data engineers to define data requirements and ensure modelling datasets are complete, accurate, and fit for purpose.
- Support data discovery, cleansing, preparation, and analytical data-readiness activities.
- Translate complex analytical results into clear business insights for Finance and executive stakeholders.
- Develop repeatable, maintainable, and well-documented analytical processes.
- Support model operationalization and integration into the client’s broader analytics environment.
- Contribute to technical documentation, model methodology, business rules, data definitions, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to other data science and machine learning resources.
- Work within privacy, security, and access controls associated with highly sensitive financial information.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional experience in data science, predictive analytics, machine learning, statistical modelling, or advanced analytics.
- Advanced Python development experience for data analysis and predictive modelling.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing predictive models in a production or enterprise environment.
- Strong experience with forecasting, regression, statistical modelling, machine learning, or time-series analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with scenario modelling, simulation, sensitivity analysis, or what-if analysis.
- Strong experience with feature engineering, model validation, performance evaluation, and model refinement.
- Experience working with financial, cost, profitability, commercial, revenue, or business analytics is strongly preferred.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large enterprise datasets.
- Experience working with data engineers and business stakeholders to prepare modelling-ready datasets.
- Strong understanding of data quality, missing data, outliers, model bias, assumptions, and analytical limitations.
- Experience communicating complex modelling results to non-technical business stakeholders.
- Experience with SQL Server, JDE, Snowflake, or similar enterprise data platforms is considered an advantage.
- Experience within aviation, transportation, financial services, or another data-intensive industry is considered an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
