The Role
An opportunity has arisen for
Band 2 Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) within our hospital wards across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated HCSWs with effective communication skills to join our friendly teams. In return, we offer ongoing learning opportunities to support your learning and development. Full induction will be provided to all new starters.
You will be required to assist in delivering a high standard of nursing care to patients. These posts require candidates with good problem-solving and listening skills, together with a compassionate and caring nature. Previous experience within an NHS, hospital or care setting would be advantageous.
Availability and Working Pattern
Candidates must be available to work 7 days over 7 on a full-time, permanent basis.
Full availability to cover a
varied rotational shift pattern is essential, including both
day and night shifts. Candidates must be able to commit to the required shift pattern, including weekends and public holidays where required.
Positions will be based across the following NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde locations:
- Gartnavel General Hospital
- Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- New Victoria Hospital
Candidates should be prepared to work across the required shift patterns and locations as part of the role.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the nursing care of patients under the supervision of a trained nurse. This will include all basic care, including the reception, admission, transfer and discharge of patients according to procedure.
- Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
- Observe and report any change in the condition of the patient and communicate this verbally to the nurse in charge.
- Assist patients who are unable to self-care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
- Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures, e.g. urinalysis, faecal occult blood testing and urine collections, as required. Report all findings to the trained nurse.
- Participate in and assist with the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary, e.g. fluid charts and care rounding charts, and file documents appropriately when required.
- Be responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines, and report any defects or areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
- Maintain adequate stocks of supplies from central and clinical stores, excluding medicines.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- No formal qualification required
- Good standard of education
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good team-working skills
- Previous healthcare or care experience is advantageous
