About Nucleon
Nucleon Energy is developing a new uranium conversion facility to help strengthen the Western nuclear fuel supply chain. The nuclear industry is entering a significant period of growth, driven by increasing electricity demand, energy security, renewed nuclear development, advanced reactors and growing demand for reliable, carbon-free baseload power.
Nucleon is building the team and infrastructure required to develop one of the first new Western uranium conversion facilities in decades. As development progresses on our new commercial-scale facility in Wyoming, we’re beginning to build the specialized technical team required to design, commission and operate its fluorine-generation systems.
The Opportunity
Nucleon is seeking a mechanical/plant engineer or operations specialist with direct operational experience in uranium fuel conversion facilities.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Nucleon’s in-house engineering, environmental and development teams to support the preliminary design of its uranium conversion facility, bringing operational experience and industry knowledge into the design process.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside Nucleon’s engineering, environmental and development teams, you will:
- Support the development of the facility’s preliminary design.
- Provide industry operational experience (OpEx) guidance to the design team.
- Define off-design operating cases and maintenance requirements.
- Support the design of mechanical components within the facility.
- Contribute to plant layout and the optimization of the modular fabrication and construction strategy, incorporating operational, maintenance and safety requirements into the layout design.
- Participate in vendor selection.
- Participate in risk assessments as a core team member.
- Serve as a member of the owner’s engineering team for external engineering efforts.
- Plan for the establishment of the operating company and the commissioning and startup of the facility.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a mechanical/plant engineer or operations specialist with direct operational experience in uranium fuel conversion facilities.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of:
- Acid digestion
- Solvent extraction
- Uranium fluorination processes
- Anhydrous HF handling, safety systems and HF recovery systems
- Fluorine electrolyzer operations and safety systems
- Solids handling and containment
- Environmental controls and plant safety systems
- Building environment containment systems
