Position Summary
We are seeing a highly motivated Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Engineer to support the design, operation, and maintenance of natural gas distribution and transmission asset, as well as other utilities such as water and district energy. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the electrical, instrumentation, and control aspects of various projects, and be ready motivated to grow the E&I team.
The role will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, project managers, drafters, clients and the different departments in their organizations, and provide an understanding of the processes working in the utilities and oil & gas industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the quality of deliverables meets the expectations of EMB and our clients
- Take professional responsibility for key project deliverables (drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, etc.)
- Connect with existing and new clients to develop relationships through project delivery
- Support the development of proposals and responses to requests from new and existing clients
- Assist in the pursuit of new clients
- Collaborate with the EMB’s multidisciplinary engineering team to grow our team and deliver projects
- Develop electrical system designs including power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), grounding, lighting, and hazardous area classifications.
- Specify and select instrumentation for pressure, flow, temperature, and level measurement systems used in gas utility
- Develop control philosophies, cause-and-effect matrices, logic diagrams, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument index documentation.
- Perform field assessments and site investigations to evaluate existing facilities and identify improvement opportunities.
- Prepare equipment specifications and technical bid evaluations for electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and operational needs.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives by identifying equipment upgrades and automation opportunities.
- Manage engineering projects from concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid BC driver’s license (or other provincial equivalent)
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or eligible for registration
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in oil & gas, natural gas utilities, or industrial facilities.
- Ability to work in Canada, either under Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or work permit.
- Good organizational skills, able to handle multi-tasking on multiple projects and manage own time
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience or knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Openness to learning new skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Electrical power and distribution systems.
- Instrumentation and control fundamentals.
- Process control principles and industrial automation systems.
- Engineering drawings (P&IDs, schematics, loop diagrams)
- Hazardous area design requirements and intrinsically safe systems
- PLC, SCADA, RTU, and DCS platforms
Salary Range
The annual salary ranges from $100,000 to $125,000 CAD. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training.
