Job Summary: The Engineering Outreach Manager provides
strategic leadership and oversees the development and long-term management of
all Engineering Outreach programs, ensuring initiatives align with Faculty
priorities, community needs, funding commitments, and the overall goals of
Engineering Outreach.
Nature of work:
Reporting to
the Assistant Dean, Engineering Outreach in the Faculty of Engineering and
Applied Science (FEAS), the Engineering
Outreach Manager provides oversight on the successful development,
delivery and assessment of all engineering outreach programs. This position will collaborate with internal
and external stakeholders to secure required funding for program delivery and
supervise outreach personnel on day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities/accountabilities:
Program Design Development
- Lead Engineering Outreach staff in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality STEM programming for elementary and secondary school students and educators focusing on the engineering design process.
- Provide strategic direction to ensure programming aligns with Faculty priorities, curriculum needs, community needs, and funding commitments.
- Oversee the development and review of program content, activities, resources, and delivery models to ensure consistency, quality, accessibility, and impact across Engineering Outreach initiatives.
Strategic Community Partnerships
- Develop fund proposals under the direction of the Associate Dean to secure funding for new, continuing, and expansion of outreach programs.
- Provides leadership and support to ensure effective donor relations and stewardship activities.
- Work with internal stakeholders on all reporting requirements of outreach activities as per funding agreements.
- Represent the Engineering Outreach unit (FEAS) in outreach partnership committees and memberships.
- Develop a clear communication plan and materials to promote outreach programs and activities.
Staff Management and Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all Engineering Outreach programs, ensuring effective planning, coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement across all programs.
- Work collaboratively with the Faculty Budget Officer to manage the overall Engineering Outreach budget, including monitoring program and forecasting program needs, and coordinating the procurement of equipment, and technology.
- Maintain a high level of performance across the Engineering Outreach unit through effective recruitment, hiring, supervision, mentorship, and performance management.
- Lead and support strategic initiatives and special projects related to Engineering Outreach and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), including new program development, partnerships, funding opportunities, and Faculty priorities.
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated experience leading and supervising staff, with strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization, manage competing priorities, and translate strategic goals into actionable plans.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs, priorities, timelines, and deliverables simultaneously.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to use these tools for planning, reporting, data tracking, budgeting, and presentations.
Required Education:
- Completion of a university program consisting of four academic years
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this role
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
Required Experience:
- A minimum of seven to ten years of related experience in engineering outreach and/or management.
- Previous experience in fundraising including grant writing and submissions which resulted in successfully securing funds.
- Experience in stewardship of donated funds.
- Demonstrated success in personnel supervision within a postsecondary environment
