Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.
THE ROLE:
PETRONAS Canada is a great place to launch a career that is enriched with knowledge, technical skills and mentorship. Our summer student program provides an opportunity to experience real-world challenges, collaborate with diverse teams, network with other students and create a vision for your future career path.
Working with our Production team in Calgary from May through August 2027, the Production Engineering Summer Student will support the Growth, Base and Water Engineering teams through a combination of production surveillance, optimization, technical analysis and defined improvement work. This role provides broad exposure to how engineering teams use operating data, field information and cross-functional collaboration to support safe, reliable and efficient production.
With guidance from experienced engineers, you will take ownership of meaningful technical assignments and an end-of-summer project. The project may include a production-performance or water-performance review for a selected area, pad or group of wells, with traceable data, documented assumptions, analysis of performance trends and engineering-supported recommendations.
During your summer, you will gain exposure to the energy industry by attending sessions hosted by subject matter experts and will have an opportunity to showcase your learnings with your student network. We are looking for capable, energetic, and driven individuals to join us in our passion for progress. Expand your potential with us!
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
- Compile, validate and analyze well, pad and area operating data to support production surveillance, optimization and engineering decisions
- Review production performance, identify trends or optimization opportunities, and clearly document assumptions, limitations and expected value
- Support Growth and Base Engineering work through data review, routine engineering analysis and defined improvement initiatives
- Support Water Engineering analysis, including completion-water volumes, flowback recovery, daily water production and parent/child well comparisons
- Contribute to water-planning and optimization tools, which may include GIS-based mapping, pump selection and preliminary water-transfer planning
- Develop and present a focused end-of-summer technical project with clear findings, recommendations and supporting analysis
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering degree program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and must be returning to undergraduate studies following the completion of the work term; preference may be given to students entering the final year of study
- Strong analytical ability and an interest in production, petroleum, chemical, mechanical or related engineering work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to organize, quality-check and interpret technical datasets; experience with Power BI or GIS is an asset
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings and document assumptions
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with Production, Water, Operations, Reliability and Technical Services teams
- Initiative, attention to detail and a commitment to safe, reliable and practical engineering solutions.
