Job Description: Property Accountant
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Reporting to: Accounting Manager or Senior Manager, Property Accounting
Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Accountant with a deep specialization in Yardi Voyager to join our finance team in Toronto. The successful candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented professional responsible for the full-cycle accounting for a diverse portfolio of properties, including commercial, residential, and/or retail assets. This role is crucial to our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, timely reporting, and effective communication with various internal and external stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
1. Financial Statement Preparation and Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a portfolio of properties.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis of actual results versus budgets and forecasts, providing clear, concise commentary to management.
- Perform balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are accurate and properly documented.
- Generate various financial and operational reports using Yardi Voyager, including custom reports as needed.
2. Accounting Operations & Management:
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management.
- Process and review monthly rent rolls, ensuring all tenant billings and charges are accurate and timely.
- Oversee bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Audit Support:
- Collaborate with Property Managers and senior leadership to prepare and finalize annual operating budgets and periodic reforecasts.
- Provide comprehensive support for year-end external audits, including the preparation of working papers and providing documentation as requested.
- Ensure compliance with all internal controls, accounting standards (ASPE or IFRS), and regulatory requirements, including GST/HST filings.
4. Yardi Voyager Specialization:
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Yardi Voyager, providing technical support and guidance to other team members.
- Maintain and optimize Yardi modules, ensuring data integrity and system efficiency.
- Utilize Yardi's advanced features, such as the lease management module and reporting tools, to streamline processes and improve financial insights.
- Assist in training new users on Yardi Voyager best practices.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in property or real estate accounting, with at least 2 years of dedicated, hands-on experience using Yardi Voyager. Experience with a mixed-use portfolio (commercial and residential) is a significant asset.
- Education: A bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA program is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Mandatory expertise in Yardi Voyager.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling).
- Familiarity with other property management software (e.g., MRI, Building Engines) is a plus.

Compensation
The salary for this position is competitive and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Based on Toronto market data, the anticipated salary range is $65,000 to $85,000 CAD annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
