RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc. specializes in hydrometallurgical technologies for refining critical minerals, processing mined ore and upcycling lithium-ion battery materials. The company is building multidisciplinary capabilities spanning hydrometallurgical process development, technical services consulting, and R&D across the metals, mining, refining, and battery materials sectors. With a newly equipped wet chemistry laboratory and pilot facility in Delta, BC, RecycLiCo is positioned to support bench- and pilot-scale projects, process development, and optimization work for industry partners while advancing its proprietary battery-materials technology.
Position Overview
RecycLiCo is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support bench-scale hydrometallurgical test work alongside other wet chemistry testing as needed. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects, collaborate with experienced scientists and engineers, and support the advancement of critical minerals and battery upcycling processing technologies developed in British Columbia.
The Laboratory Technician will play a key role in supporting RecycLiCo's technical roadmap by performing high-quality analytical and experimental work, contributing to research and development, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of chemical analyses and experiments. The successful candidate will work closely with the technical team, participating in interdisciplinary projects and helping advance both proprietary recycling technologies and consulting services across the mining and metals sector.
Job Duties
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment at all times.
- Run hydrometallurgical and wet chemistry tests, including leaching and precipitation test work on black mass, ore concentrate, and other feedstocks, as well as filtration and solid–liquid separation, titration, and related testing.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, storage, and labelling of chemicals, samples, and equipment.
- Receive, inspect, log, sort, and label client and internal samples.
- Prepare solid, liquid, and slurry samples, including dilutions, and other routine and non-routine wet chemistry preparations.
- Prepare reagents in accordance with written procedures and maintain proper documentation.
- Perform routine and non-routine analyses using appropriate wet chemistry and hydrometallurgical methods.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment in accordance with written instructions, including pipettes, burettes, Büchner funnels, and pH/ORP/DO/conductivity meters, among others.
- Conduct analysis using a variety of techniques (e.g., titration, chromatography, spectroscopy, physical/chemical separation methods, customized tests, etc.) based on established procedures.
- Use an applied and methodical approach in conducting laboratory tests, pilot-scale experiments, and hydrometallurgical process steps.
- Collaborate with engineers and technical team members in designing, conducting, and analyzing laboratory and pilot-scale tests.
- Assist with test setup, apparatus preparation, data collection, test completion, and post-test cleanup.
- Collect, compile, analyze, and interpret test results, and prepare technical reports.
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory procedures and workflows.
- Follow all health, safety, and PPE requirements when handling acids, corrosive reagents, and other hazardous materials.
- Perform other duties or tasks assigned from time to time.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Environmental Science, Metallurgical Technology, or related field.
- Fluent in English.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with wet chemistry lab techniques, apparatus, and equipment.
- Experience with leaching, precipitation, or other hydrometallurgical, mineral processing, or metallurgical test work is strongly preferred.
- Comfort and experience working safely with acids, corrosive reagents, and other hazardous materials with proper PPE.
- Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
- Must be able to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
- Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and to balance conflicting demands of high volume versus quality results.
- Ability to stand for extended periods; ability to wear proper PPE
