Role Description
We are seeking a QA Automation Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Selenium, Cucumber (BDD) and Java, underpinned by a solid grasp of object-oriented design.
Hands-on testing experience with one or more enterprise payment platforms (IPF, OPF, GPP or equivalent) is essential. Familiarity with SWIFT ISO 20022 standards and Canadian and US payment schemes, such as Lynx, ACSS/AFT, Fedwire, CHIPS, or equivalent international schemes, is an asset.
In this role you will design and build automated test frameworks, work alongside cross-functional delivery teams, and safeguard the quality of mission-critical payment systems for major financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain robust automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver and Cucumber (BDD)
- Write clean, scalable, maintainable test code in Java, applying sound object-oriented design
- Build and maintain automated tests across the full stack – UI, API, middleware and message layers – covering component, integration and end-to-end transaction flows
- Perform functional, regression and integration testing across the payments value chain, covering core processing platforms, middleware and interfaces, operational dashboards and reporting
- Design and maintain payment test data covering scheme validation rules, exception handling and edge cases
- Support test environment readiness, including configuration, connectivity and test data refresh, working with client infrastructure teams to keep environments stable through delivery cycles
- Analyse test results, identify defects, and work with development teams through to resolution
- Maintain and execute automated test suites as part of CI/CD pipelines
- Document test strategies, plans and results to meet audit and compliance requirements in a regulated delivery environment
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts and client-side QA teams to understand requirements and translate them into test cases, contributing throughout Agile ceremonies including sprint planning and retrospectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software testing, with a focus on automation
- Proficiency in Selenium, Cucumber (BDD) and Java
- Familiarity with test management tools (e.g., JIRA, TestRail) and version control systems (e.g., Git Bitbucket)
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, or similar
- Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and test data preparation
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, including working directly with client teams
Preferred Qualifications
- ISTQB or equivalent certification
- Exposure to cloud-based testing environments
- Familiarity with SWIFT ISO 20022 standards and payment schemes such as Lynx, ACSS/AFT, Fedwire, CHIPS or equivalent
- Familiarity with messaging and integration protocols such as MQ, Kafka and REST
- Experience supporting SIT, UAT or client test environments
- Experience working with GIT in distributed teams
