Job Description
We are working exclusively with a fast-growing technology company serving government and public sector clients to identify a Financial Controller. The business has outgrown its early finance setup, and this role was created to put the right structure, systems, and reporting in place for its next stage of growth.
This is not a caretaker role. The person stepping into this position will report to the CFO and take full ownership of accounting and finance operations, with day-to-day bookkeeping handled by an outside provider. You will be expected to build processes where none exist, automate before adding headcount, and grow into a broader finance leadership seat over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close and deliver accurate financial statements
- Own corporate tax filings, payroll remittances, sales tax, and statutory reporting
- Oversee payables, receivables, billing, collections, and employee expenses
- Manage banking, treasury, and regular reporting on the company's cash position
- Direct the outsourced bookkeeping provider and hold the work to a high standard
- Handle revenue recognition and multi-entity consolidation as the business expands
- Design internal controls and keep the company ready for audit
- Select and implement finance systems, using automation and AI tools to cut manual work
- Build budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models, and report on results against plan
- Support the CFO on board and investor reporting, financing, and special projects
What We're Looking For
- CPA designation with 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Direct, hands-on ownership of corporate tax filings and payroll
- Experience running full-cycle close and producing financial statements
- Background in a high-growth technology or service-based company
- Experience leading an ERP implementation
- Practical use of automation or AI tools to improve how finance work gets done
- Self-directed, organized, and comfortable where processes are still being built
- Clear communication and the confidence to work directly with executives, auditors, and advisors
- Canadian citizenship and eligibility for a Government of Canada security clearance
- Exposure to government contracts, recurring revenue models, or M&A is an asset
What's Offered
- Competitive base salary, annual bonus, and eligibility for stock options
- Extended health benefits for you and your dependants
- Direct mentorship from the CFO and a clear path to broader finance leadership
