Talent Acquisition Specialist
We are seeking a proactive, results-driven Talent Acquisition Specialist to own our end-to-end recruitment process across all technical, trade, frontline, and professional salaried roles.
About Us
At Salit Steel, we believe that people are our most valuable asset and the foundation of our long-standing success. Family-owned and operated since 1905 and now in our fifth generation, we view our employees, customers, and industry partners as essential members of the Salit Steel family. Guided by enduring values, we foster an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse, talented individuals while focusing on building genuine relationships, delivering outstanding service, and finding innovative, cost-effective ways to provide our clients with the best experience possible.
Headquartered in Grimsby, Ontario, we operate an integrated network across Ontario, Quebec, Western Canada, and the United States to deliver comprehensive steel solutions throughout North America. As a dynamic organization, we run steel service centres and provide a full spectrum of reinforcing and specialty products - including stock, fabricated, assembled, and stainless steel rebar, as well as mechanical tube.
Whether an item is in our existing inventory or needs to be custom sourced, we ensure our customers receive exactly what they need, where they need it, and when they need it.
Role Summary
As the Talent Acquisition Lead, you will own full-cycle recruitment for the organization. You are a natural "hunter" who proactively sources top-tier talent rather than relying solely on inbound applications.
While primary day-to-day focus and operations are centered in Ontario, you will provide talent acquisition and onboarding support to the rest of the organization across Canada and the US as needed. Managing multiple high-volume recruitment campaigns simultaneously, you will recruit across a wide geographic footprint for plant-floor/trades roles, and corporate salaried positions.
Operating from either our Grimsby or Etobicoke facility, you will partner closely with hiring managers, oversee vendor relationships, deliver candidate orientation, and ensure a seamless, high-touch experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Full-Cycle Recruitment & Candidate Sourcing
- End-to-End Ownership: Manage the complete talent acquisition lifecycle from intake calls and job posting to candidate sourcing, screening, interviews, offer creation, and preboarding.
- Proactive Sourcing ("Hunter" Mindset): Actively headhunt and source passive talent through LinkedIn, industry networks, trade schools, job fairs, job boards, and cold outreach.
- Multi-Site & Remote Attraction: Successfully attract, engage, and recruit frontline workers, skilled trades, semi-skilled operators, and remote professional staff, focusing on Ontario while supporting all other Canadian provinces and US operations as needed.
- Volume & Campaign Management: Execute and balance multiple high-volume recruitment campaigns concurrently while meeting aggressive time-to-fill targets.
2. Hiring Manager Partnership & Training
- Deep Role Understanding: Embed yourself in business operations to intimately learn
trade, technical, and professional roles to refine attraction strategies and selection criteria.
- Stakeholder Management: Manage hiring manager availability and schedules to
ensure swift interview turnarounds and an efficient, candidate-centric recruitment process.
- Interview Coaching & Training: Develop and deliver interviewing skills training for hiring managers, providing structured interview guides and compliance guidance.
3. Selection, Offers, Orientation & Preboarding
- Screening & Assessment: Conduct preliminary phone screening and interviews to assess skill alignment, cultural fit, and safety orientation.
- Background & Verification Checks: Coordinate and perform comprehensive reference checks, criminal record checks, and role-specific pre-employment testing.
- Offers & Preboarding: Draft, issue, and manage offers of employment and coordinating
preboarding tasks.
- Orientation Program: Participate in and deliver the company orientation program to ensure smooth employee integration and initial compliance training.
4. Vendor & Third-Party Management
- Agency & Partner Oversight: Manage external third-party agencies, recruiters, and job
board vendors when external recruitment support is deemed necessary.
- Cost & Quality Control: Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate rates alongside HR
leadership, and ensure agency partners strictly align with company standards and budgets.
5. HR Systems & Generalist Exposure
- ATS Management: Serve as the subject matter expert for Dayforce ATS, keeping requisition statuses updated, tracking metrics, and ensuring applicant data integrity.
- Cross-Functional HR Support: Assist with broader HR initiatives and gain exposure to
HR functions outside of talent attraction (e.g., employee relations, retention strategies, HR projects, and compliance).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of full-cycle recruitment experience managing a mix
of industrial/skilled trades (frontline, semi-skilled, skilled fabrication) and corporate
salaried/professional roles.
- Multi-Site Scope: Proven success running concurrent high-volume recruitment
campaigns across multiple geographic regions and remote talent pools.
- Geographic Focus: Ontario-focused background with experience supporting multi-
jurisdictional recruitment across Canada and the US.
- Industry Background: Previous experience recruiting within manufacturing, metal
fabrication, heavy industry, production, or construction environments is strongly preferred.
- Tech Savvy: Hands-on experience using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), specifically
Dayforce (Ceridian). Proficient with LinkedIn, job boards, and modern recruiting technologies.
- Proactive Sourcing & Vendor Management: Demonstrated track record as a
candidate hunter with strong direct-sourcing capability, alongside experience managing
external recruitment vendors/agencies.
- Orientation Delivery: Experience facilitating or building onboarding and orientation
programs.
- Travel & Location: Located onsite in either Grimsby, ON or Etobicoke, ON with a valid
driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for local travel across the GTA and
Niagara region
- Communication & Influence: Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder
management skills to partner effectively with shop-floor supervisors up to executive
leadership.
Working Conditions & Mobility
- Work Arrangement: Onsite role based out of Grimsby or Etobicoke plant/office facilities.
- Travel: Regular local travel within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Niagara Region to visit facilities, deliver orientations, attend career fairs, and meet with hiring managers.
