Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Group Underwriter to join our team in the Underwriting department. This position offers the flexibility to be in-office or participate in hybrid options in our Saskatoon or Regina office.
JOB FUNCTION
The Group Underwriter is responsible for reviewing and evaluating group insurance applications within the group health, life, and disability income lines of business. This position supports the sales effort through the accurate and efficient assessment of both prospective and existing group business plans.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate underwriting information clearly to internal stakeholders
- Participate in meetings and presentations with team members and clients as needed
- Assist in maintaining departmental procedures and suggest improvements
- Assist in collecting and organizing data for pricing and project analysis
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and projects as required
- Assist in inputting data into multiple software systems
- Analyze and assess risk, calculate rates, and generate rate quotations for Group life, income replacement, health, and dental benefits using established factors and formulae
- Follow established underwriting standards, guidelines, and procedures in line with industry practices and corporate objectives
- Assist in modifying plan design to meet diverse client requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation and up-to-date files, recording all key decisions and actions
- Assist in maintaining the Department procedures manual
- Assist in reviewing quotes & renewals from other underwriters
- Provide sign-off for risks within your authority limit, as appropriate
- Escalate to Senior Group Underwriter for any risks outside established authority limit
- Respond to and escalate non-standard requests appropriately
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Mathematical Sciences, Commerce, relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required
- 1 -3 years of experience, within the insurance and/or health care industry
- GBA designation through the Certified Employee Benefits program (CEBS) is required
- CEBS designation preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Word and Excel with an ability to easily learn new software programs
- Robust mathematical and analytical ability with high attention to detail
- Must have a strong ability to create reports, spreadsheets, and logical graphical representation of data
- Proven professional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle shifting priorities and meet frequent deadlines while maintaining strict confidentiality
- Results oriented, highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Strong adherence to privacy and confidentiality standards and practices
- Legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
- Criminal Record and background check satisfactory to Saskatchewan Blue Cross
