About Sevens
Sevens is developing a next-generation connectivity solution for mobile users and distributed assets. We are currently advancing our first integrated hardware prototype and are looking for a hands-on Hardware Engineer to help turn our technical requirements into a working physical device.
The successful candidate will work closely with the founding team and embedded engineering resources to develop and integrate the hardware for the first prototype.
Position Summary
The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the hardware architecture, component integration, electrical design, and physical development of Sevens' first functional prototype.
This is a hands-on role involving component selection, electrical design, power management, PCB development, hardware integration, testing, and prototype iteration.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Integration
- Review the existing Technical Requirements Document and translate requirements into a practical hardware design.
- Select appropriate hardware components and modules based on technical and performance requirements.
- Develop hardware architecture, schematics, and electrical interfaces.
- Integrate computing, communications, connectivity, positioning, power, and peripheral components.
- Work closely with the Embedded Systems Engineer to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.
- Support component placement and internal system architecture for the physical device.
Power & Electrical Systems
- Design and integrate battery and power-management systems.
- Define power requirements and distribution across device components.
- Evaluate power consumption and support optimization for a portable device.
- Address electrical safety, reliability, thermal considerations, and component compatibility.
PCB & Prototype Development
- Develop or support PCB schematics and PCB layout for the prototype.
- Work with off-the-shelf development modules where appropriate.
- Assemble, test, and troubleshoot prototype hardware.
- Identify and resolve electrical and integration issues.
- Iterate hardware designs based on testing and validation results.
Connectivity & RF Integration
- Support integration of cellular, wireless, positioning, and other communication components.
- Work with antennas, connectors, cables, and related RF components.
- Consider signal integrity, interference, grounding, and electromagnetic compatibility during prototype development.
- Support testing of connectivity hardware and system performance.
Prototype Testing & Validation
- Develop hardware test procedures based on the TRD.
- Validate individual components and complete hardware assemblies.
- Troubleshoot electrical and hardware failures.
- Document test results, design changes, and technical issues.
- Support the transition from the initial prototype toward a production-ready hardware design.
Cross-Functional Development
- Collaborate with the Embedded Systems Engineer on hardware/software integration.
- Work with firmware and connectivity resources on device interfaces.
- Collaborate with the Industrial Designer on enclosure requirements, component placement, ports, and physical constraints.
- Work with the founding team to ensure the hardware remains aligned with the TRD.
