Hiring: Appeals Assistant – Alberta Appeals Commission

Role Overview
The Appeals Commission is the final level of appeal for workers' compensation matters in Alberta.
We are looking for a Temporary Appeals Assistant (AA) to serve as the primary point of contact on appeal hearing days and provide front-line support to external parties and internal stakeholders, including Appeals Officers, Hearing Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Commissioners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and operational support to Appeals Officers
- Prepare and distribute correspondence to participating parties
- Create and maintain Document Indexes for Appeal Documents Packages (ADP)
- Manage pre-hearing administration and identify issues that may impact hearings
- Coordinate teleconference and video conference arrangements
- Guide parties through in-person, teleconference, and virtual hearing processes
- Attend and record hearings and troubleshoot technical/process issues
- Support parties during distress, emergency, or crisis situations
- Maintain accurate appeal statuses and timelines in ACES
- Coordinate with Hearing Chairs and IT to resolve status errors or omissions
- Format, proofread, and prepare Hearing Chair decisions for publication and distribution
- Ensure decisions follow approved style guides and formatting protocols
- Review documents for errors and communicate suggested corrections
- Prepare final decisions for publication on CanLII

Additional Requirements
- Onsite position – Calgary
- Equipment and required Government of Alberta system access will be provided
