About the opportunity
We are recruiting a Director of Construction for a company specialising in the design, engineering and manufacturing of solar mounting systems for commercial and utility-scale projects across North America.
The Director will lead the construction services team and supervise the Senior Project Manager, overseeing multiple projects and ensuring high-quality installations. The role combines strategic planning, project execution and operational management with strong client and stakeholder relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Manage solar racking, carport, single-axis tracker and EV charging projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through design, manufacturing, installation and completion.
- Establish and manage project schedules, resources, budgets and quality standards and manufacturing performance objectives.
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, including design, tooling and parts vendors, to meet customer requirements for cost, delivery and quality.
- Work with engineering teams to improve racking designs and costs, and verify that designs meet specified customer requirements.
- Coordinate customer requests for drawing updates and design changes.
- Prepare project quotations covering prototype and production costing and tooling for approval.
- Ensure prototype and production tools, processes, early builds and production parts meet targeted cost, quality and timing requirements.
- Ensure changes to bills of material, tooling, costing, pricing and processes are documented, communicated and implemented effectively.
- Work with engineering to develop and improve installation and maintenance manuals.
- Support continuous improvement of products and manufacturing processes, including recommending and implementing new technologies and processes.
- Visit solar project sites to address customer concerns and provide feedback to engineering.
- Lead the local team and regional leads, coordinate cross-functional meetings and hold team members accountable for deadlines and tasks.
- Manage team training, development and goal setting.
- Maintain strong client relationships, communicate customer requirements to the team and support new business development and additional sales.
- Ensure compliance with company operational policies and applicable health and safety requirements wherever work is performed.
- Travel to project sites, business meetings and trade shows as required.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of seven years' experience in project management, preferably in the solar industry, foundation installation or related fields.
- Experience managing construction projects from design through completion, delivering on schedule and within budget while working extensively with subcontractors.
- Experience in construction cost control and budget management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong stakeholder influencing, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, team members and project stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational, time management, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of applicable construction codes, regulations and best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of foundation technologies and associated best practices is an asset.
- PMP certification is an asset, but is not required.
